Genesis 8.1 Release | Create Detailed & Photorealistic Renders

Ready for flawless rendering? With the Genesis 8.1 platform, you can create characters with a range of realistic emotions! Let’s dive into what’s new so you can get your creative juices flowing and prepare for your newest 3D artwork.

Have a Look at What’s New

Each part of the face adds to genuine emotional expression, and 8.1 makes realistic 3D facial expressions a breeze.

To access all the features Genesis 8.1 has to offer, be sure to update the Daz Studio Default Resources package to 4.15+. Also, keep in mind that your previous Genesis characters are compatible with 8.1, but 8.1 characters aren’t compatible on earlier platforms.

Improved Facial Expressions

With this update to Genesis 8, facial animations are broken down into individual muscle movements. It uses morphs based on FACS (Facial Action Coding System), which is what professionals use for animations and facial recognition research.

This update makes every one of your character’s expressions more realistic, but what’s even more important is that it makes it easy for you to accomplish lifelike facial and mouth movements with improved in-view controls.

Shader and UV Improvements

Say goodbye to waxy skin! You’ll find a new PBR (Physically Based Rendering) skin shader, which improves subsurface scattering to create authentic skin colors and textures. This platform ensures that the details between sculpts and textures better match to create a lifelike look, and the UVs now have better pixel density and seams.

There’s even added support to leverage MicroSkin tiling micro normal maps thanks to our partners at Texturing.xyz.

This means that when you render your art, you’ll feel confident your model’s skin will look exactly how you want it. (And we’ve got another article for you if you want to render faster than ever before!)

More Depth and Realism to Eyes

View your 3D world with new eyes, and give new eyes to your characters while you’re at it. Choose from new options for eyelashes, shader settings for eyes and eye areas, and a detailed sculpt for the iris with matching texture. Plus, optimized UVs make it easier to add depth to the eyes.

Improved Detail to Mouth Areas

Genesis 8.1 brings better detail, sculpts, and textures to mouth areas, including the mouth, teeth, and gums. Optimized UVs allow for this greater level of detail, so you can achieve the right emotive look effortlessly.

Other Improvements

Even with these great improvements available, there are even more that you’ve got to try out.

  • You can add vellus hairs (also known as peach fuzz to us common folk) to the face and body, as well as body and facial hair to males.
  • Male anatomical elements will now work on female bodies, and vice versa with female anatomical elements on male bodies. These additions make it easy for you to make characters that are just like real people from all walks of life and of all gender expressions.
  • The enhanced Facial Rig and Power Pose Panel for the face are available.
