How to pose left and right shoe separately

So, with most shoes, the left and the right one load together. But how can I "separate" them, so I can pose them individually?

Let's say I want to make a scene where someone has left his boots out in the corridor. But they're not posed neatly next to each other, one boot has maybe fallen over.

How would I go about that? Thanks!

Easiest way would probably be to load the shoe pair twice, hiding one shoe of the pair on each.

Same here; I've had this problem I don't know how many times.....And it never occured to me even once to do this....

I also use this method if I'm manually fitting boots to a character they won't conform to.
