Changing Item Order in Scene Tab

After randomly creating a number of different shot angles, I would now like to arrange the cameras in sequential order in Scene tab.  Is there a way to do this?  Selecting a camera and right clicking brings up a number of options, but none appear to allow me to move a given item up or down the scene list.

  • Open the Scene pane option menu (the lined/hamburger button in the top corner, or right-click the tab)>Reorder has options for moving the seelcted item. There is also a Sorting submenu.

Could try creating a bunch of nulls, then parenting the cameras one to each null, in the desired order.

Richard's answer wasn't showing over here when I typed my answer, his is better.

I just tried reordering the cameras in the BOSS Light set.

I'm on a Mac using DS 4.15.0.3, so there's that.

I multi-selected (CMD-left click) each camera starting in reverse order of how I wanted them to appear, but left out the camera I wanted to be first.  With the cameras selected, I dragged the selected cameras onto the one I didn't select.  That parented all the selected cameras to the unselected camera.  Then I did an Undo.  All the cameras reverted to being unparented but in the order I wanted (the reverse order of how I multi-selected them.)

Might want to try this technique.  It's really quick and only a few steps.

  • Tried both of Richard's suggestions -- they don't work as intended.  Sorting only alphabetizes (or reverse alphabetizes), it doesn't allow for simply selecting one item and moving it up or down.  Reorder only provides options for selecting and moving children -- no use in my case as cameras are not parented.

I suppose I could always group the cameras and sort them using Reorder.

Leemoon's trick apparently doesn't work on PCs -- when I hit Undo, it completed restored the cameras to the original random order I had them in.

Well poo.  I was hoping my trick would work for you, zombiewhacker.

I've reordered the BOSS Light cameras in a variety of ways.  As another test, I currently have them with all the odd number cameras first followed by the even numbered ones.  I've also reversed the order and randomized the order.

Of note, the BOSS Light cameras show up in the Scene tab within a "folder"? named CAMERAS.  Not sure if that makes a difference and I have no idea how to create a folder/category/whatever-it-is in the Scene tab.

Here's a screen shot of the cameras I just now reordered into even numbered cameras first followed by the odd numbered ones.

*EDIT* - It appears that this trick only works with items inside a scene "folder/category/???".  I can't reorder anything that doesn't have an upper level root node in the scene tab.  I see the same thing as you see, zombiewhacker, where the Undo restores the items to their original order.

  • There is one trick that usually works.  Save your scene before you do this as the ODD time, at least with characters, sometimes the texture won't re-appear properly.

If you DELETE any object, then press CRTL+Z to undo your delete, the item will reappear at the bottom of the list.  Usually this works flawlessly with about everything I have done it with.  On RARE occasions, if I delete a character, when I undo the delete, it reappears, but appears as if it has no textures even though it does.  Otherwise it works.  What I done recently was I deleted cameras and some indoor assets and didn't touch the characters so the characters were grouped together and the rest was just under them.

I was just looking for an answer to this question. The only solution I can find is to put everything in your scene into a group, including any new items you add. That allows you to change the order of your scene items because they become children of the group. Hopefully DAZ will change this feature to work by default in the scene tab, even for items that aren't nested.

My method is to create a new group, give it a name. Then drag things into the group in the order I want them, starting with what I want on top.

Later, if I ever want to reorder things, I again drag them onto the group (even if they're already in the group) starting with the one I want on top. Works great.

A group / null or parenting is a prerequisite (at least now)...My way is: I created four shortcuts for Reorder.  It works great each time I wanna reorder. I can reorder one or multiple selected items, nested groups, etc. in seconds.

Also expect Reorder function for unnested items...
