Rtx 3xxx vs 4xxx

Rtx 3060 12gb or 4060 8gb which is faster for iray render ? anybody got benchmark ?

  • There is a benchmark thread here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/341041/daz-studio-iray-rendering-hardware-benchmarking - but of course a big question here is how big are your scenes, 8GB is not an enormous amount of memory so you are liekly to drop to CPU (or stop) quite often, depending on what you render.

As the baseload from Windows, DS, the scene and the needed "Working Space" takes about 4GB's of VRAM, you will be strugling with an 8GB GPU, the 12GB version will give you double the available VRAM for textures and geometry when rendering IRAY

8GB is very borderline - I cannot recommend.

Games are -designed- to work in 12GB but Daz places no such limits so you can quickly use up lots of VRAM without really trying.

The 16GB 4060TI is actually OK for Daz because it's 16GB, just do not buy it for game performance. I benchmarked the 4060 TI in Daz recently in the benchmark thread that Richard Haseltine mentioned. It did about 7.22 iterations per second.

(Some of the listed values in the chart are using an older version of Daz which was faster in iRay (but the quality was lower) so some of the numbers in the chart would be lower today).

    I've Ryzen 3200g 8gb ram and GTX 1650 so - which will be a good upgrade :

    1) I5 12400F 32gb ram and rtx 3060 12gb or

    2) only upgrade the GTX 1650 to rtx 4060 ti 16gb (rest of the specs remain same)

8GB's of RAM is also not enough, consider 32GB's the minimum

Having a 16GB GPU card and only 8 GB of RAM does not make sense. As PerttiA says, you really need at least 32, and even that might struggle with a 16GB card if you create any large scenes.
