How to avoid showing the "Smooth shaded" phase when previewing in Iray?

Hello, this might be a weird and random question, but... I don't know if it's my older graphics card (1050 Ti, new PC hopefully soon), but whenever I switch the view to Iray to preview, it briefly switches to the "Smooth shaded" mode - which, especially when working with faces, can look very creepy (I don't know if it's just me, but especially things like teeth and long eyelashes, dear god). It also gives me no practical use to have it appear for a bit before it loads the Iray view.
So, can I bypass this somehow? I know this is not the most technical reason for it :p but I actually searched all the settings twice over and can't find any way to adjust this. Thanks in advance for any help.

It is doing prep work - mainly transferring the data to Iray/the GPU. It might be shorter on a faster system, but I don't believe it is possible to have it use a different Drawstyle while working.
