Issue (missing file) with Art Ken Knight Hair for Genesis 9

KeithorasKeithoras Posts: 18

Hi everyone.

I recently ran into an issue regarding this Hair asset while trying to deploy it on a Genesis 9 Model.
I never had this issue before with other assets.
Does anyone have any idea where it could come from, and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!
(see the attached file for the details)

It is part of default ressources.

Which version of DS are you using?

It is? Not in mine. Premier Only?

    You should.

Most new SBH uses omnisurface hair shader.

    And I am not Premier.

Ah, sorry, I meant the hair, not the shader. One of those "inactive" products still hanging around in my Wishlist.

At first I used DAZ 4.20.
Then I updated to DAZ 4.23 (like shown in the picture, in the top left corner).
I have the same issue in both versions.

    Have you updated default ressources?

  • I just updated the default resources for DAZ 4.23 and I still have the problem.
Also, I have searched at the "Built-in Content" directory and I don't find the "OmniSurface" subdirectory and the "Omni-Hair Root-Tip Blend.dsf" :|
While Install Manager said it is installed... I'm a bit confused right now.

  • Ok, after desinstalling the default resources and reinstalling it, this time both subdirectory and file were installed.
However, the issue doesn't end here: Once I try to dye the hair, I got systematically a white version (even I chose Black).
I tried to dye the hair manually, and even that doesn't work.
Is this haircut cursed or... ? :(

I have attached an image to show the result.

I can't find the hair and I don't have it.

There might be an issue with the hair.

How does the surface tab look?

Moved to Technical Help as it is not a Daz Studio application issue.

Check the log file (Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File) after rendering

A quick diagnostic question: can you apply the omnishader to any strand hair.  You can test this by loading a generic Genesis 9, load a fiber eyebrow from the Genesis 9 essential and change the color using the include omnishader for those eyebrows. I tried loading the hair and it changes color for me.

What's your Nvidia card and the currently installed Driver version ? If you use an RTX card, the minimum driver version needs to be 537.70 for OmniHair shader to work ~~

My graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER.
    Pilot version: 566.36

Also I must add I have used extensively Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 models for years
But I am an absolute beginner with Genesis 9 models
Does that mean everything about how texturing works has now changed in this new generation of models?
If it is the case, I would spare your time and mine and drop it entirely and stick with previous generation models.
I'm not gonna spend hours again to figure out how and why it doesn't work as it should for something as basic as changing color of a haircut... :(

I attached a screenshot of the Surface Parameters for the Hair.
Let me know if you see something weird or wrong in it.

@Nemesis10: I'll try to make some tests with generic genesis 9 stuff later today, but if it doesn't work, I'll go back to Genesis 8 and older version models.

OmniHair shader has nothing to do with G9 figure per se. This AK Knight hair also has a G8M version. You can try loading it on a G8M.  (screenshot 1)

Actually in your Surface pane, some of the key settings are not correct (at least not as same as what I have loaded + preset AK Knight Hair Color 17 Black ) and even texture maps were not loaded into Hair Root Color slots... . Check (screenshots 2 ~ 4).

I suspect the product has not been correctly installed. Better post your DS log. (clear Log firstly, then load the hair, then load a Material Preset to the hair. Attach the log down below...)

    Hi there!
Thanks for the help @felis @Nemesis10 and @crosswind.

In the end, the problem was... a corrupted installation (again) of the Hair cut. After reinstalling it, it works perfectly fine now.
I don't know what's happening, but recently a lot of content installed has been installed in a corrupted way.
Sometimes, the content installed doesn't even show up in the DAZ software.
I never had this issue before, but recently I had to reinstall a lot of content stuff several times (the default resources for 4.23 and the Art Ken Knight Hair are a few examples among many).

Though my problem is now solved, do you have any idea where this series of corrupted installations can come from?
Am I the only one experiencing such a thing?

    Cheers!
