Suggestion: A Junkyard for Iray and 3Delight

I suggest a Junkyard for Iray and 3Delight.

The Junkyard should have some scrab and junk hills, oildrums and such stuff and maybe some different wracked cars, a small or bigger hut/shack and should be enclosed with a fence (wood or corrugated iron) and maybe should have bard wire on top, also a open/close gate would be cool. Would be good if some or all items would created as single props  so one can pose them (Scrab and Junkhills also as single props)

The simple drawing is just a suggestion how it could look

I can't give you the yard, but I already did the junk (Iray + 3DL)

Jackson's Field would make a good base. http://www.daz3d.com/jackson-s-field

  • I'm just going to add a plus one to this request ...

My humble self is not just humbly, but boldly lazy and would love a whole junkyard set... especially with (half)crushed cars and such stuff... a shed or container to put an office in (or maybe something less shady) would be nice too...

aaahhhh... the possibilities of a junkyard. all the hiding places, the carfreaks looking for replacement parts no longer easily available, the collectors of all things steampunky, the shady folks using a junkyard as decoy for their real operations, one could even hold wrestlingmatches or *whispers* fight clubs there. and I didn't even mention all the work for csi folks that such a junk yard could hold - or the tomboy playing with the rottweilers instead of barbiedolls.

and the kittens. don't forget the kittens... NEVER forget the kittens!

did not recognized the release of this set. Looks awesome. Do you have it? Is it possible to delete the plants or load the set without plants? There is a base preload set and a full preload set, so maybe the base is without plants but with all other stuff?

The junkyard is not only for carfreaks but also for some shady guys using it as a sham company and base for their shady business. Some wracked cars at the junkyard would be realy cool and would give an add on an option: THE SCRAP SQUEEZER + CRANE

And it can have some different skydomes, one without and one with junkhills at backround

  • junkhills are very good idea, as is the machinery! ^^

I might be able to put something together for this,  though I'm not quite sure how much of a high demand item this would be.

I must say, Blaze and Cosmo did suggest some pretty good possibilities and potential story ideas.     If you all post some pics...

  • that would be great!

there was an episode of csi new york "the box2 where a junkyard was featured... and I think I saw a crimescene or... "disposal possibility" at a junkyard in at least 3 more movies...

what I have in mind when I think of it, is something like a cross between the usual car cemetery and what wall-e had to deal with :D

something like what these folks have: https://thehuntergatherers.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/the-junkyard/ mixed with this http://breakingbad.wikia.com/wiki/Old_Joe's_Junkyard
here's a view more images on this site, especially of the machinery and crushed cars: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a1481/4213384/

the layout that cosmo drew is pretty neat, having some area that would be useable for secret meetings of shady folks or some illegal fights, that'd be nice too (you know, a free space surrounded by walls of junk to hide what's going on and make sure no one hears secrets or whatever's going on in that place).

I'm sure that would be muuuuuuch work... maybe it would be possible to do some kind of cooperation with people who already have stuff that would be usefull. Like there's already some crushed/rusted cars and there's already some good junk and parts... that maybe just would need some new textures and/or poses to fit in a junkyard environment...
but if you really want to tackle the whole thing... I will surely not stand in your way ^^

sure, my image was just a suggestion, the area could be a bit larger, also because of the add on I have suggested that needs space, too: THE SCRAP SQUEEZER + CRANE

in link in my posting it's a moveable one (http://pop.h-cdn.co/assets/cm/15/05/54c86db0af785_-_ez-car-crusher-sm-0407.jpg), but there are also of course others - just entering car crusher into google image search yields many results ^^ in fact... I haven't stopped looking at them, even lookd at some youtube videos. Ended up at the shredder that got fed a whole couch...

sorry I hijacked your suggestion... I guess I was just too excited about all the possibilites of recreating stuff from rpgs and books I liked :)
I still think that your layout is great to go with and thank you for suggesting this!

no problem and nothing to thank for smiley I did nearly the same, have googled some run down and industrial art photographies and find some junkyard images (more art photographies) and the idea was born.

    Yes, TangoAlpha

is really good about separating his props out. Just about everything can be kitbashed, and the trees are awesome for use in other scenes!

I would also recommend Powerage's Sawmill http://www.daz3d.com/sawmill as it has a crane (With a bucket, but you could hide it and use Maclean's Everyday Morphing Primitives or Nurnie's Greebles to make a magnet), a flatbed trailer, and a lot of buildings that could be converted to junkyard style. It also has piles of ... stuff ... that could probably be retextured to look like random junk.

One or two items that might add to another scene:

I don't have DS in front of me so I can't remember if you can hide the bricks and the ground, but maybe you can get another squished car here: http://www.daz3d.com/city-ruins-vehicles

Sometimes re tasking what you already have in your runtime can work to get what you need.

Here a quick test,   I took two environment prop sets and mix and mashed them up a bit.

    http://www.daz3d.com/last-chance-gas-station

    http://www.daz3d.com/ambush-apocalypse-wasteland-environment-props

It's fairly easy to turn any car into a junker.   I took the rusted paint texture off the water tower for the SUV.  For the background,   I just used the instancing scripts available to add the multiple instances of barrels and tires. Probably should have added a couple thousand more.  Like I said this was just a quick test.

Ah, okay, have one question on these Nurnie`s Greebles, what is it and where can I find it? The post-apoca-product I have and already used some stuff for creating nice little things (retextured). Thanks for the sawmill link, will have a look at it.

sooooo... i got the gasstation too and it really looks good... but I could use some fences for more privacy (higher and no seethrough) that still keep the style of ambush-apocalypse-wasteland-environment-props... any suggestions?

edit: i know there's a lot of seperate stuff I could build with and I did a lot of that in my lil testrun... guess that should run smoother with that scatterthingie?

edit2: the imaginary house stuff looks fitting, but is also not that high, sure it can be scaled (as can the seperates from the ambush-product), but if there were a fence like the metalthingies in the ambush product that are like a story high, that would be nice :)

Hmm, that is difficult, fences with no seethrough, I think the content creators do these seethrough because you can play with it (camera angles, 3d backrounds and so) but I also search for such fences or I have to create one on my own with some corrugated iron I have. I will have a look at my content, maybe I have something in it that could fit your needs. I will let you know but right now I got no solution in my mind.

  • cosmo71cosmo71 Posts: 3,609

BTW, I have asked (suggested) for a yard with a stonewall or woodfences or corrugated iron fences with no seethrough and an open/close gate a while ago but got no answer
