Hi Saphierwild, when was the last time that you had your laptop serviced?
If the fans & heat sinks get loaded up with lint & dust the CPU will overheat and cause you all sorts of problems. Take a flashlight and look in the air vents for dust & lint. If you see any white furry stuff, have it serviced soon. If you don't and a chip burns up, you'll have to buy a new laptop as almost no one rebuilds them.
MAC laptops are known to overheat due to bad air flow. Desk top machines are easy to clean, 2 screws and the side panel comes off. Some canned air or a leaf blower and the dust build up is gone. Anyone can do it.
But laptops need someone that knows what they are doing to safely service it.

I am going to have it serviced the end of this month actually I am having it wiped and redone and cleaned (once I get everything backed up onto my 1T eternal harddrive)
I am also getting a new laptop with a much bigger memory (the one I saw last week had 32 gig memory and 1T HD only $495.00)
