another issue is that apparently ( unless it's a problem with the installer ) they didn't include the material libraries
i spent an hour googling and could not find an install file with a size larger than 504MB, and could not find someone with material packages
I am also missing the materials in Material Browser, examined the 500MB installer, but there are no materials.
The tutorial assets has a few materials like copper and porcelain to start with though.

Do NOT get the 600kb file named chip_blabla, instead click the the "HERE" below the download button in the text:

I don't like being a huge pain, but I really tried everything I could think of to get this to install. It doesn't make sense, because trust me, I already tried before you made a new post, and it doesn't like it regardless of which drive I stick it on.
I'll do more search on the problem later, but this is really WTFy.

maybe disable your anti-virus before the install, in case your anti-virus snatches the .exe the second it sees it
On older versions that was theoretically possible. Unfortunately, there is an issue with OpenCL kernel compiling on ATI graphics chips, at least for Blender. If you try to render even the simplest of scenes with OCL enabled for an ATI gpu, the computer will sit there compiling the kernel and, at least on my system with 8 GB RAM, use up all the memory, slow to a crawl as it accesses hard drive swap space, and eventually crash with some error. This happens in Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. I've got the AMD OCL SDK installed in Windows just to be sure I had all the right drivers. Still no luck in Blender.
Blender devs claim that ATI hasn't got their act together, so in the latest versions (I'm using 2.65.10 at the moment) they've disabled gpu support entirely, except for NVidia's CUDA. Now the strange thing is that I can enable Hybrid Path and Hybrid Bidirectional in Luxrender and it will use my ATI gpu just fine. There is a noticeable improvement in rendering speed. That would be fine, except Luxrender is way too slow anyway for my intended purposes (learning character animation), and CPU only rendering in Cycles still gives me results in a fraction of the time I would have to spend with Lux. Granted, Lux has faster options than Hybrid Path/Bidirectional, and it also has MLT, so that's why I keep it.
It would be awesome if the Blender devs took on the task of improving the BGE visual quality some day. I guess I'll play with MachStudio for now and see what I can learn from it. No need to spend big money on the latest and greatest when so much can be learned just by studying free stuff! :)
i tried machstudio, followed the tutorials but there's one weird problem. The texture that came with the mesh is wrongly placed, even if i changed the uv placement in machstudio, it is still wrong.
I exported it from maya. Anyone knows what is wrong?

I just downloaded the installer but it doesn't work! I have Win7 64bit! Here is a screen shot. Any ideas!
if you look at the file you downloaded it's 500K, not 500M
the installer on the studioGPU site is not really there
so you must download it for CNET
during the installation pay close attention and you'll avoid letting cnet install all sorts of "toolbars" and advertising software

This link also works:

Can anyone tell me where python should be in stalled ?
Is it the C:/root directory (which is default for the machstudio install OR would it be the directory where the program is installed.
I also note it installed python 26 when I already had python 27 in my c:/root
thanks
I already had C:\Python26\ and it seems to be working.

EDIT
Another mirror:
http://www.freewarestudio.com/software-download/machstudio-pro/
i installed mine in c:\Python26
if you already installed Python 2.7, it's possible you dont need to install Python 2.6
if you start Blender and look at the black msdos-like window, if Blender can find Python and is satisfied with your version, it says so
Thankyou - will try the Blender thing but at moment having no success with Machstudio install which completes but the installed folders are empty ???
Think I saw others with this problem - meanwhile trying a new download from freeware studio recommended by 3drendero

Ah too bad animations are not supported for FBX. Having an alternative realtime renderer for animations would really be excellent.
Good luck on your efforts to export animations.

I'm downloading this program now. Has anyone been able to use it in a productive manner? (If only Blender Cycles would support my ATI GPU!)
i think Blender can render with cycles on ATI cards if you set it to use OpenCL instead of Cuda
