  • Nice couples pose.  I've tried a pose similar to that and it isn't that easy to do as I failed miserably with it.  You did a great job and it looks very natural.  I saw that Jeroyn is in the store today.  He's still sitting in my cart, but will be coming home to me by the end of the day.  Though, now that I've seen your image with him, I'm not sure I'll be able to do him justice. That's fantastic!  :)

@WorldsEdge Thanks! I had to tweak that one quite a bit to get it to work. I like pose sets, but they tend to be a starting point rather than a finishing point. I'm always tweaking something.

@knittingmommy Aww, thanks! I can't wait to see what you come up with for Jeroyn. I'm trying to do a more "normal" render of him, but it's not working so far. He's a wild one!

  • Lovely couple!  I picked up Jeroyn and Iain as well.  Almost caught up to all of Darwin's characters lol.

Well, it will have to wait until tomorrow.  Just set up a little animation test with Jackson so it will be rendering most of tonight.  It's only 60 seconds of animation, but should take about 3 hours.  I do have a couple of ideas for Jeroyn, though, so I'm excited to work with him.

Well, dang. I thought that last one would make a good entry to the Halloween Contest at Rendo, but it can't be posted anywhere else online already. Oh well. Maybe I'll do a similar one later. It runs for another month.

  • Yeah, I think their contests are pretty strict about that.  I haven't ever entered one, but I've thought about it and gotten as far as reading the rules.  One of these days, my skills might be up to par to actually enter.  Yours, I think, are already there!  I think you should come up with something and go for it.

Okay, let's take a walk on the wild side with the Pumpkin King, or should I say, "Punkin'" King? Darwin's newest character has amazing makeup options and gorgeous skin. I'm going to do some more "normal" looking renders of him, but this was too much fun! I wanted to do fire, but had to settle for flares as the fire wasn't coming out right and driving me nuts!

This is freakin' awesome, Llynara- thank you for posting him!

I actually had entered the Rendo Halloween contests for years-the most votes I've gotten there were 3. lol

Animation with Jackson? Oo. Can't wait to see that, KM.

@DarwinsMishap  Ah, I'll show you, but keep in mind I said test animation.  Don't expect anything really stellar.  I'm just gearing up to create my own walk cycle for G8M and Jackson was a good character to test some things out in keymate.  However, if I can get a good walk cycle created, Jackson will be staring in that, too.  I really like him, but have't really had much of a chance to use him yet.

  • How do you see how many votes you got in Rendo contests? I entered the recent anime one and placed third (in a field of thirteen). But that could have been 3 votes for all I know, given how small the entrant field was.

  • Good deal, KM! Looking forward to seeing it. I can't do animation, so "testers" are interesting to me as well.

dream- It's been so long (I gave up after a while), but I think when they announce the winners they show the votes as well.  Most of the years I entered, I voted for myself, and that was the only vote I got.  I just got really frustrated over what was winning (Love the popularity contests) and just dropped it.  I usually spent a good month on the work, and no results.

    Thanks, everyone!

And yeah, on the contests, I'm not really fond of the kind where you have to beg everyone to vote for you. I still can't figure out the galleries there or here. Sometimes I get great comments on my images but no likes. It's just weird, but not worth worrying about. Writing is the same way. It's nice to have good reviews but sometimes it's better not to read them and get sidetracked. Better to just keep creating.

    SketchFest #91

There's a really need art challenge going on at Ellen Million Graphics this weekend. You basically sign up, grab a prompt and have an hour to make something in any number of mediums, including 3D. You upload your initial sketch after the hour is up, then you can go back and do a finished version and even sell it as a print (for $5, it's a fundraiser.) It's actually a lot of fun. You can find my artist page here. Here's my first entry:

    "Child of Heaven"

Prompt: "child of Heaven bleeding heart flowers"

Note:  I used many of the same techniques that I learned on doing The Guardian cover to do this one.  I spent about 10 minutes in DAZ setting up the scene, 20 minutes rendering and another 30 minutes in Photoshop the initial sketch. I tried draping the skirt more with VWD and using bleeding heart flowers, but didn't like the results. I ended up just tweaking the original with a little more postwork.

Really amazing work! It's a good thing you have background doing art or I would really feel bad. haha

You seem to have boundless ideas and talent. :)

    Aww, thank you Liana! heart

Right now I'm trying to distract myself from allergies, which are driving me crazy. Art is great therapy for so many things!

    "Maiden with the Flowing Hair"

Here's the next sketch. I spent 20 minutes on setup, 20 minutes rendering, 20 minutes postwork. Definitely need more but this is the rough draft. I like timing these things. It forces you to make better use of your time. While the render was going, I was picking the background.

Tip: Paint filters hide a million flaws- like grainy renders! I used a favorite oil painting filter here in Topaz Impressionist.

Thanks! Here's the final version. I spent more time on rendering and lighting effects in Photoshop.

Oooh - I really like how that turned out!

  • LlynaraLlynara Posts: 4,770

Thanks, Dracorn! After finishing this one, I've decided two things:

    1. I want a pet unicorn.
    2. I want hair like that! OMG, Olenna hair is gorgeous. And I just cut all mine off six months ago. It'll take ages to get that long. Maybe a wig instead, LOL
  • Both of those turned out amazing.  I always wanted a pet unicorn!

    "Magical"

Last one for the SketchFest, which ends in a few hours. The prompt was "magic is all around us." I think it's best viewed through the eyes of a child. They still have that wonder of the world, something the rest of us need to rediscover from time to time. This is the rough draft. I might zoom in on him more for the final.

  • Pet Unicorns Fart Rainbows.  Very lovely image, Llynara.  The kiddo definitely looks like he's a believer in magic.  Another nice render from you.

Well, it's a lot better than what comes out the other end of some of the characters I live with here. laugh

Here's my finished version of "Magical." With five boys of my own, I knew he needed more mud!

I loved this one enough to make it a banner and an HD desktop background. I'll make the lettering smaller later. Gotta go make brownies with children now that resemble the one above, LOL

    EDIT: Ok, with smaller text:

I'm still playing while awaiting brownies:

  • I like the second one best.  The font is very nice, btw

  • I remember those mud covered days. I have a picture of my (now 27 year old) son when he was about 4 years old jumping up and down in a mud puddle with the biggest grin ever.  He was dripping dirt, mud and rain but man, it was so much fun to watch him lol!

Love render of the girl and unicorn and I totally love that font!

  • LianaLiana Posts: 1,035

You are welcome. :) Love these also. I think my favorite is the second one on he girl/unicorn render.

  • Nicely done. Yep, I've had my days with mud covered boys.  Such fun.  :)  I like the second one of your banner, too.  The font is a good sized and I think the middle placement really works.  I do like the font.  It's very pretty.

That is so sweet of you to enter a fundraiser with multiple images- and they are all quite lovely. (Of course I love the horse...)  Waiting for you to ship me some of those brownies... LOL, I swear I need to stop watching television. I saw a Butterfinger commercial and got a craving for one of those. Then pizza, then...so I turned off the t.v.

I love the Topaz collection, SereneNight was one of the first ones to mention those years ago, and we bought a lot of what they had at the time. I need to go back and take a look at what I own frankly, as I don't even remember. I love what you're doing with Topaz, it's so well integrated in the renders. Well done!
