Daz connect, cloud folders, and be rejected while trying to save created items by user
This was a discussion in PC+ forum and I was asked to place it here..So here it goes.
I love Smart Content! That is why I complain so much when metadata is done poorly. When it is done properly, it is wonderful.
Daz Connect, however hasn't lived up to the hype yet for me. Many scripts don't work properly on content installed by Daz Connect and files get duplicated when they are repathed. DS won't allow a user to save any files in the Daz Connect cloud folders, so if I want to save a customized material preset, or a character I have dialed, etc., I have to create a whole new folder structure for it in some other Content Library. I can't save it with the original product folder.
I noticed this too what a pain in the buttocks. As for saving stuff why does not daz just take us to the appropiate folder outside of Daz connect to begin with then it would not be an issue, I would not grumble when Daz connect says you can't do that, and go look for a folder to plop things in.
Now THAT is an excellent idea! Will you please post it in the Product Suggestions or submit a help request to ask for it? That woiuld make Daz Conmnect much better.
So basically in a nutshell why don't Daz just send us to the appropiate folder for creating materials that is not connected or related to DAZ connect and it's cloud folders. I have done this numerous times creating eye textures, etc and then end up hunting down the "non-Daz connect cloud" folders to plop my stuff in. It is really hard when things are hidden many folders deep. Daz connect does not help us to find the appropiate folder in the first place. I have a hard enough time just trying to learn the creative side and then I also have to do file digging, learn pc software 'greek' also.
I get we can create our own presets such as materials, poses, etc and it's gets saved to our my library folders. However, for me anyways creating a new texture(eyes, hair, clothing, etc) right on the spot and getting it to the appropiate folder in daz so it can find it later is a pain in the buttocks. Is not conducisive to good workflow and wastes time. It would be really helpful. I know a other people might use DAZ more if it was more "user friendly". It is just a suggestion hopefully someone at DAZ will read this and go why did we not think of this before. :)

I like to save my own presets. I find it terribly annoying that Daz Studio won't let me save my preset with the Daz-Connect-Installed presets for the same product. Liana has made a great suggestion. If I try to save something in the Daz Connect cloud folders, I would love it if Daz Studio would figure out the corresponding folder structure in my first-listed Non-Daz-Connect content library and automatically put that path in the save dialog as the default path to save my preset to. If that folder structure doesn't already exist, Daz Studio could create it when I click the Save button in the dialog. Or Daz could implement something like the drop-down Base Data Folder selection option that is presented when saving a support asset.
I don't know it just seems logical to me why would DAZ even default to those daz connect cloud folders if we can not save in them in the first place and it is for Daz to update on their end. Though I am not sure if I would want my newly created textures, etc saved in "cloud" folders in the first place, safety and logic again coming into play. It should default to the "manual" or "dim" folders assuming those are one and the same. Or even better and I do not know anything about how PAs set up their folders for sale on Daz organization wise, but it would seem more practical and quicker if there was some 'default' pathway to create content either for personal or retail use.
I am no software creator, but it seems like people make things way too complicated for no good apparent reason. I am more of the "keep it simple stupid" type. I can make things complicated enough for myself without any extra help. LOL
Not having Studio have to think is keeping it simple stupid for the program coding.
