Millinium PT shin fix!
Hi all. Someone gave me this fix and I wanted to pass it on to all you folks who use the Mil Preteen girl still. Many of you have noticed that when you open her up in DS 3.1 or later, there is a screwed up poly on her left shin that leaves a hole in her shin. This will fix that perfectly without having to re-rig the .obj file. Everything will work as it should.
First you will need an editor like notepad ++ or something similar. Once you make the changes, you will want to save the new .obj file where the original one is. Be sure to keep the old one in case you may need it for any characters you may have already, but I have not needed it. I just named the new one the same as the old one and replaced it. It works fine on any new characters I want to make. If you have characters you saved as Daz scene files, they will still have the hole as DS saves geo data with the character. Any new characters you make will be fixed, so you may want to go to your runtime pose folder and redo any you have saved as DS scene files.
I hope this will help you out and I am sure you will love the results of this like I have. No more hiding the shin, or covering it up.
Just open the file blMilGirlPT.obj in a text editor and go down to line 186642 and copy and paste, replace the line
f 26861/62624/16167 26862/62625/16167 26863/62626/16167 26870/62627/16167 26869/62628/16167
with this
f 26861/62624/16167 26862/62625/16167 26870/62627/16167 26869/62628/16167
f 26862/62625/16167 26863/62626/16167 26870/62627/16167
You probably should rename the original file and then save the new version with as blMilGirlPT.obj
Then you need to do the adjacent poly!
Just a few lines above the previous one, also replace this
f 26861/62612/16164 26860/62613/16164 26864/62614/16164 26863/62615/16164 26862/62616/16164
with this
f 26861/62612/16164 26860/62613/16164 26864/62614/16164 26862/62616/16164
f 26864/62614/16164 26863/62615/16164 26862/62616/16164
save the new file as blMilGirlPT.obj...move the original one out to another folder first, don't overwrite it, you may need it later. I just named the original one blMilGirlPTold.obj and put it back with the new one.
Hope this helps all....enjoy!

Good timing, as BlackMouse recently came out with some characters for PT.

Thanx!.. :)
Wow...after all this time someone has finally come up with a way of fixing the problem that doesn't require a total rebuild of everything but the mesh.
Thank you!
Astoundingly it worked!
Astoundingly, because I was sure (being me) I will get something borked.
And Mamota's designed a new outfit for her, too.

Echoing the "thank you"s for the fix... Thanks!

Yeah, but with those boots, it didn't really matter...
Thanks :D I still use the PTs a lot, myself :D
I was browsing Mamota's site after downloading the PT outfit, ad am having a hard time figuring out how to download some of the other freebies I like. Tips?
Yeah...
Go here...

All but the latest is a lot easier to get from there, as opposed to the blog pages.
Thanks, mjc :D
Definitely save the old .obj somewhere, as any RTE encoded characters will need it for decoding...
I'm glad you found my fix useful. Black mouse emailed me about other issues that sometimes crops up on the hip, which turns out to be caused by more bad polys. Actually, they're "quads" with a superfluous point on one edge that throws everything off. She's comfortable with a modeler, so I explained to her how the polys needed to be split to fix them. To do the same without a modeler, make the following edits:
1) replace this:

EDIT: As I was putting this together, out of curiosity, I checked out the other gen2 characters to see if they had any of these problems. Turns out, both the preschool boy and girl does too. Since the boys use the same obj file as the girls, these fixes will work on both of the preteen figures.
Here's the fixes translated for the preschool figures. The first two are for the left shin, the rest is for the hip.

Hey I need to ask a favor of Music2u4u & Semicharm.
I just tried the shin fix patch of yours and it works...
But ... when I try to load the Tenten J morphed character, the mesh doesn't load.
It loads the hair and a dot but nothing else.
The TentenJ.ch2 calls the blMilGirlPT.obj file.
Tenten J http://www.eurus.dti.ne.jp/~masasi/DOWNLOAD/yamato/index.htm
The PTgirl loads fine by itself, but the morphed one doesn't
So there must be some conflict with the changes that this patch made.
So if you have the time... could you look into this?
I did just the shin, not the hip.
I've used Tenten in several renders lately, and had to hide or touch up the spot on her leg.
I like the older models because most of my renders lately have been crowd scenes.
I can put more of them in a scene on my 32bit machine & still be able to render in one pass.
Thanks,
Gerry
What app are you using? I just double checked in DS3 & 4.5, then Poser 7 & 8 and had no issues with getting Tenten J to load.
And I totally agree about using older figures. They may not pose or texture as well as the newer ones, but with a few good textures they are still very handy for filling in a scene. Thanks to alvinylaya, I even manged to dust off the old poser boy. http://www.posetteforever.com/dload.php?action=file&file_id=317

DS 2.3 on winXP 32bit 4gig system.
It has a smaller overhead than DS 4 so I can add more figures, plus I like it. :P
I'll have to try it in DS 3.
DS 2.3? WOW. OK, I did find my install and still don't have any problems loading Tenten J.
OK... I went and re patched the file again, this time it worked like it should.
Maybe I shouldn't try patching files when I'm half asleep. :P
Thanks for your time.
Gerry
