DazStudio fatal error

I ran into this error today: DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\DzCore.dll" at 0033:00000000FE089D4E, DzObject::modifierIterator()+30 byte(s)

3 hours of work down the drain! I looked up how to resolve this and I found posts dated back to 2012 - this is rediculose, why is this bug still present? I tried merging the scene with a new scene - no luck. Moved access to files I thought might be causeing the error - no luck.

I can open other saved files just fine. The scene in question only had a Chair, shadow cathcher and two Genesis 3 figures. So now I either ditch the scene, or start over and attempt to recreate it - praying all the while the error doesn't happen again.

Please - fix these annoying bugs Daz, geeessshhhh!

    "Save" is your friend.

    There are several options to this - if you have made several test renders in Iray, and changes in between, i.e. changing items in the scene, and changing skins, then for some reason, the temp memory will not clean up properly, and you'll end up with a crash. This is also true if you made several test renders and kept the window open (that is an almost certain way to create a crash).

    I actually saved just before the crash. I did not think the file would be corrupt because of that. In fact the thumbnail on the save file was roughly 5 minutes before the crash because the second figure didn't even have her hair applied yet.

  • That isn't a very specific error - there may be many causes, yours may well be different from the one in 2012.

    This is true I admit but it doesn't help that now I'm afraid to spend this amount of time on a render just to loose it all for unfathomable reasons.

  • Save often is always good advice, ideally using Save as to change the file name so that you have successive versions (I usually number mine, starting at 00, so they list in order of creation, then add a note on what the latest chaneg was in the rest of the name).

    Super Save makes it easy to save incremental versions of a scene and document what was changed in each version. I use it all the time and have changed my Ctrl-S shortcut to go to Super Save Incremental Save Pro instead of the default Save.

    I found the culprit! I was redoing the scene and saving often like everyone suggested. Thank goodness I did because I ran into the same issue. It was caused by: Selena Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s). I'm not sure if you guys can look into that or not but the error happens every time I attempt to add it to a figure or just after. I even uninstalled and deleted the files then redownloaded - no luck, still the same error and crash.

  • First go to Edit>Preferences (DAZ Studio>Preferences on a Mac) and under DSON Cache Files click the Clear button. If you still get a crash after that please make a Techncial Support report, attaching your scene file and listing the items used. http://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us

    I just got the same issue today (same error different memory address of course).

    I don't understand for the life of me, how a file saved 30 min ago cannot be opened anymore and all the other files can.

    I suppose the idea of a defect item used in the scene when saving might be guilty but still.. just lost quite the amount of work here. And if it's meant to crash because of a specific item, it would be nice if it could crash right away and not 40 min later... how am I supposed to identify it now :s

    Hm...was looking for this or similar....i just got this one "dzcore.dll" at 0033:00000000BD9B4519, DzFacetVertexDelta::operator=()+1129 byte(s)"

    Only it happens after i try to use a specific morph for Nabi and Minjun for Genesis 9 that i just bought from the Daz Store not long ago...figured i'd try searching the forum for the error  first before contacting the seller...this was the closest one i came across, i have the newest version of daz etc. and nothing else crashes my daz before or after except just that...just the two morph sliders that belong to those characters heads....tried removing and reinstalling it but eh lol

    As far as i know everything else works and my pc specs and such shouldn't be an issue though i do have windows 11 but i removed the cloud right after getting it and did some other stuff but it was all done long before i installed daz.
