How to start with a new Character?

Meanwhile I'm working with DAZ 4.5 for several weeks and I've got nice results. And I do still prefer it after installing my german POSER 2012 PRO version!
But everytime I install a new figure it's another adventure to start, find and build the character up.

This time I implemented a character (Kaitey/ based on Kids 4) by setup-function.

How do I begin? "Open" or "Import"? First start the basic figure (Genesis Child?) and then select surface by surface for the body? And all the other maps one by one?? Or this there a way to get the complete character with all option files into the scene at once?

:ohh:

Thanks, that you want to help me. Here's the link for this case. But I thought (hoped), it would be the same procedure with most characters.

Okay... first are you using Genesis or K4?

From what you've said, I believe you are using Genesis which is a different figure than K4. You can apply those texture maps to Genesis. You must select the "The Kids 4" UVS in order for them to work properly. The shaping you will have to dial in using the Genesis dials you have available.

K4 is a Generation 4 figure. Genesis is Generation 5. They are completely different, but many things available for Generation 4 can be used with Genesis. Not everything, however. Someone correct me, but I'm pretty sure GenerationX has no ability to convert K4 morphs to Genesis.

That set is for the previous generation K4, not Genesis.

This is a Generation 4 character for the Generation 4 K4 (Kids 4) figure. It will not work on Genesis as you think. As has been stated above.

I would like to add (yes K4 character will not work on Genesis but the skin Materials will) like the hair product you had trouble with, it is the same for every piece of content made for Daz Studio. You have presets for loading materials and presets for loading Characters (morphs).

If you have the K4 base model then you would load the base first by going to the Content Library > Poser Formats > My Library > Figures > Daz People > K4 base
Then Content Library > Poser Formats > My Library > Pose > and find the character morph and material presets for loading.

There is no need to Import or load the textures manually one by one for any Daz Studio formatted content sold here.

I start by opening Genesis / Child, then I choose any of the skin surface and can see in the little browser of "Diffuse Color" that the skin comes from the following folder which must be pre-installed by DAZ 4.5 because I haven't installed the Kids 4 yet:

My Library/Runtime/Textures/DAZ/Characters/TheKids4/AC_KidsRRT_NG.jpg (however, it's the only folder with K4 material I can find)

Now I changed part by part the maps of my new character which is made for Kids 4 - and all fits perfect! Even the hair.
Only the clothes don't want to.
OK, nevertheless, I'm going to get the Kids 4 Base now and see what happens ... c u

I just wish to know why your not using your Content Library Tab to find your Items? If you open Window>Tabs(Panes)>Content Library then go to Poser Formats>My Library and hunt your content you can load the texture from its content window. No need to do the one section at a time thing like it seems you are doing for textures or content.

All your content will be in one of your two content windows. Smart Content will show all your Smart items and Content Library will show all your older items that do not have Metadata to make them work in the Smart Content.
