Lycanthropos Poser Hair version help

I need help with the lycanthropos poser hair version. How do you adjust the fur? It looks fine before I render it, but when I do it looks like a demented porcupine, hair sticking straight up and is impossibly long in all directions. I tried the dynamic dial but it made it worse.
