How cool is this:

Theo Jansen’s ‘Strandbeest’ (blendernation)

Can this be done with Bullet in Carrara? I suppose it'd have to be driven by keyframes, I don't know whether that is doable.

Oh my, is That ever Awesome!
I bet you could do it in Carrara. The physics engine seems to work quite well. And it's rigging works well too.
I really like that first animation where the physics causes the walking animation. Very cool model.
Looks like a really fun project for the inclined, as well!

    Thanks for that, araneldon

would take a lot of presision modelling but certainly doable
you would want very close collision distances, no bounce and max friction
being a Blender user, maybe he has his model up for download to try even.

Sure would be a fun build, though! :-P

If it was made/animated with Bullet in on app...it should be doable in another app that uses Bullet...

Bullet is Bullet, whether it's in Blender or Carrara or stand alone or anywhere else.

Now, the rigging...yeah, that will be app specific.

And that thing has one cool rig! Look at that! Just cool!

This makes me want to buy that COGNITO plugin...

I was thinking about doing some virtual origami and found this
morph targets would be the obvious choice sequenced along the timeline but maybe a boned piece of paper you can fold in many ways a possibility, with weight painted triangulated polygons radiating out from a central root bone.
this would be a cool idea for a Daz/Poser model too. it could be used to pose a sheet in many ways too.

Yes, I think this can be done in Carrara. And maybe even better. We can use IK (targets) if I am correct. And maybe use NLA for this. Each movement can be duplicated easily. They can be shifted in time. They can be made faster / slower by stretching the NLA clip. Maybe Puppeteer could be involved. Motion path could play a roll.

Here's one based on kinematics in a motion called Peristaltic Locomotion.

Good article in Wiki on different animal locomotion.
