Hi, it's been a while. Mostly been focusing on other art hobbies. Anyway, this is a quick test render of Fantasy Assassins for V4 converted to G8F with RiverSoftArt's script. Latonya 8 with Mousso's Albany's HD and normals, as the model. I've not seen renders of this outfit on G8F, only on G1. (This outfit also has one of the best product descriptions I ever read because it's so self-aware.) However, due to the fact that this is a very revealing outfit and I want to post this test render while complying with forum guidelines, I did this textureless render.

My only gripe is that with this script, the armor fits lose and even lifts off the skin. I tried the tightening morph that the script generates, but it doesn't help. Still it's a good-enough fit for me. For the knives, I unparented them from the hands after loading. Moved the arms up around 30 degress, then reparented them, moved them around and used the basic hand grip poses and fingers fist pose.

This first render is one of the few rare scenes I've saved. What happened is that the materials (metals and gems, specifically) don't look good to me and I'm trying to figure out good settings for them to look better in this overall illustration. This scene of this sexy half-orc woman was the project that got me using strand-based hair as filler for regular hairs that render out too thin. Not shown in this test render, but she is holding a gun.

This second render is one I've been working for a while too. Finally, I found a nice skin for this character because he's meant to be very fair. (The skin is from ChangelingChick's Foster for G8M.) I regret not picking up Foster sooner. He has a lot of option including nail morphs which many of the other G8Ms I've picked up lack. His shape is nice too, but this was another character whose dial-spun result I'm pleased with, so no Foster shape. Not clear on this render either, but Foster has a beauty mark on his left eye. This character wasn't meant to have that but at the same time, it fits him.

I have no idea what I did, other than use Nix 8's skin settings with Foster's skin because I wanted a pale character and somehow, this and the lighting. The test render looks 3Delight even though it's Iray too. Don't get me wrong, I like this look but it wasn't what I was going for. The lens is supposed to be red but it still looks clear. I need to fix that too. I also need to re-texture some of the assets I used here because that would make this kitbashed skimpwear he has look more unique.

  • Other people have had better luck at styling hairs with the strand-based (revamped Garibaldi) hair system but I finally figured out how to successfully use it in my renders. I'm using it to thicken/add volume to hairs that look too thin in the renders. I used to do it with geoshells but they never quite looked as good. Doing with the strand-based hairs looks more natural. The tricky part is trying to tint the hair to match.

In this example I'm using Olympia 8 (one of my most used G8F base characters), who has Ophelia 7 skin applied to her. Let's face it Olympia 8 is actually Ophelia 8, since Elithia 8 now fills the Olympia/curvy goddess role and the Olympia 8 eyebrows fit Ophelia 7 skin very well as seen here. Fane Hair for G8F and 3DArena's Davinia for G8F's geoshell lingerie to follow forum posting guidlines.

The thickening/added volume is most noticeable with the black hair, as opposed to the teal & yellow hair.

(Basically, less postwork in having to paint in new hairs. I'm also trying to figure out how to use this method to make more frizzy and asymmetrical hairs for the sake of "realism". But also, to prolong the life of lower-poly trans-mapped modeled hair.)

This looks really useful thanks for sharing!

@IceDragonArt You're welcome. I need to see how my budget will be later on because I'm sure this hair shader product will make this type of hair experiment easier. https://www.daz3d.com/mmx-blended-dual-lobe-hair-shader-toolkit-for-iray

I could use it to kitbash "new" hairstyles mix strand-based bits with modeled hairs. Them dye it all the same to match.

Oce again, I've gotten sucked into other projects. Here's a quick "Middle Eastern" looking G8M. As I've said before I like to use Ohanzi's eyebrows and cropped hair, and Vladimir 8's beard. I really forgot why I whipped up this character, but here you go. Skin is from Alexander for Darius 8, but with Ohanzi's skin shader. The eyes are from CC Foster.

"Recipe", just in case any of y'all want to make someone with a similar look.

@MimicMolly, I have a thread in the Commons for the MMX shaders, (here,) where I show tests specifically on how they work with fiber hair and tranmapped hair. JonnyRay started a thread to compare the MMX shaders with ColorWerks Extreme, (here,) which came out a couple of days later.

I have both, and I like them both for different reasons. Take a look at the threads. I think you'll find Slosh's ColorWerks Extreme a better fit for blending SBH and Transmapped Hair together. Especially if you want different colors for the ends.

(It pains me to say that, as I really love the MMX shaders…!)

I have gotten ColorWerks Extreme, and this is a quick render using it with two items from today's cart -- Silas 8 and 3Dream/Mairy's Perseus Hair. (Bonus Diego 8 beard and Caballero Outfit shirt with Mec4D cloth shaders.) Silas' translucency is at 45%. I really don't like it up at 90%, the skin looks like it loses details and it seems a bit too waxy for my tastes.

Need to think of other render ideas besides these simple portraits. XD

He looks good in this "simple portrait," though.

I have him in my cart, yet. I'm getting the base figure and two of the Silas based characters, Malik and Stefon.

Mec4D was very active in the forums when Iray was released. In a thread on skin, she mentioned that human skin translucency shouldn't go about 40-some-odd percent. I think she said 49 percent, but I'd have go down a long rabbit hole to find the post. IMO, making skin darker by increasing the translucency really is a "cheat," (or trick, if you prefer,) to get the digital world to mimic the real one. I'm guessing Daz doesn't want any color but shades of white in the Base Color channel, but as users, we can lower the translucency and add a touch of color to the Base Color to get darker skin if we want.

Regardless, I think Silas looks really good at 45% translucency. Very realistic.

The Perseus Hair looks excellent with the ColorWerksX shaders. It looks a bit thin, though, an issue with most older hair in Iray. I wnder how hard it would be to add a bit more volume using Strand-Based Hair. I don't have Perseus, but I do have some similar hairs from the same era and vendor. Now I'm going to have to experiment. (And I think I have to get Perseus Hair, now. It looks so good with those shaders!)

Originally, this was just a quick attempt to make a muscularly curvy G8F. I also took the time to combine the G8M Armani Hair with the G8F dForce Elessa Ponytail, so I could sahde them with ColorWerks Extreme. G8F's body is Olympia 8 100%, Voluptous 64%, Hellboy's Breasts and Glutes Utilities randomized at 150%, Tara 2 Head 50%, and Gia 8 Head 50%. Her skin is from Pepper for G3F and G8F.

This quick character and the untextured version to show how she looks in the back:

This attempt at an artistic render, but it's an "attempt" because I just don't let things render all the way because I want to use my laptop for something else:

I have a G8M scene using that RW Hanging Pod Chair, and the reason I've not worked on it is because I gotta figure out how to drape a cloth and then, how to re-texture said cloth because it's supposed to be some random sensual fanart that can probably be posed here.

This wasn't the G8M I had sitting on the RW Hanging Pod Chair, but it is the same pose which I had to do a lot of tweaking for because the original G8M was more fuller and plump. Gallery Link here [x].

I like this prop, it's fun and it takes Iray shaders well. I still want to do the other G8M render, but not all the extra work to make that the fanart I want.

As for the character, he's DMC5 V for G8M by InTheFlesh, available at his Gumroad. I have Vergil too, and according to my friend who has played DMC5 and other DMC games, V and Vergil are basically the same man. (Yeah, this confuses me too, but whatever.) V renders nicely, the only little nitpick complaints I have is that he only comes with one texture that has the tattoos and the shape is combined. But then again, that hasn't stopped me from liking HH's Ronen for G8M. Like Ronen, I'll see if I could work him into my genepool and use him as some skinny guy base.

Managed to squeeze one silly render before the night is over. V and the Muscular Curly Girl. XD

EDIT: You know what? This actually looks good. I put it up on the DAZ Galleries too. [x]

I think the Silas 8 eyebrows work really well with V. He's actually taller than her. I think she got up to his shoulder and she is "default" sized. XD

InB4 the forum site messes up and I can't post this. Just because I can and nobody really intervenes when I do artsy stuff, here is a render WIP of Team Plasma Boss, Ghetsis Harmonia from Pokemon: Black & White. Relevant only because earlier this month the pokemon from his region (Unova AKA Pokemon United States Of America) were released in Pokemon Go. I would do other characters but given the contrasting game art style and DS style, I have to really think. And yes, I kitbashed his hair. The hardest part is his weird un-American outfits.

I had also made attempts to make his weird son and the pink-haired daughter. I need to do the blonde daughter to complete the family and then figure out which skins to use for everybody. I might also need to use Power Pose on him too because I can't just use regular expressions since the right side of his face is paralyzed but the game lore never explained why. I just assume it's because "curse."

I managed to update to 4.12 and I can already tell it renders much faster than 4.11, so here's a quick test render. Yes, I finally got the G8 Baby Bundle yesterday at an 82% discount. I like it.

For my uses, it's worth it. Now I wonder about PedroFurtadoArts' "Babyfication". How good is it to make better baby mixes. Here, the baby was a mix of V and Tobyn both at 100%. The baby has BJ Miriam's skin adjusted with Altern8.

An attempt was made to recreate this pokemon "kid" called N. ("Kid" because the character is 18-20 but still quite child-like in terms of behavior.) Here is a picture of the character in the artwork. Now, we just had Hiro 8, Kenji 8, and the like this would've been so much easier, because I could go toonier instead of "realistic".

This is my attempt. I actually re-used the same base morph I used for his dad, then just tried to make it look yoinger but also kinda awkward because that's really the most accurate description of him. Also, this G8M version of him is now a cowboy because that makes him more American. Gotta make use of the Diego 8 stuff I got. I used SquarePeg3D's Bowsette hair with SloshWerk's Colorwerks (the original one). Once again, the hair color doesn't quite match and tempts me to make my own custom edited map. I think my problem is that I want the hair to be less solid color and have other slight shades of green in there. Perhaps even a bit mixed with blond.

This test render has some post-work done on MS Paint. To cover up some poke-thru with the hair. And I used the Sickeyield Hat Helper, which helped a lot. I don't think a fuller similar hair for G8M exists unless I did some random SBH mix and then used ColorWerks Xtreme over it. I'm undecided on the skin, I need to figure out how to make him paler than this..

I have plans on making the player character girl, named "Hilda". Here is a pic with her and the boy player character named "Hilbert".

The main reason I'm making her instead of him, besides always picking the female character if given the choice, that female characters in this hobby have a greater selection of morphs, both realistic and toon/anime. So I'm more likely going to get satisfying results with my shaping experiments. Plus, female figures have way more clothes to chose from. And while looking through My Product Library, I came across the Urban Edgy Outfit for Genesis 3 Female(s), which comes in the Monique 7 bundles. With the exception of that top and hood on the jacket, this is a good choice since I don't have to hunt so many products down to kitbash. I just have to use a different tank top, and live with the fact the shorts don't have those anime rips. I like the long sleeve look better anyway, even though I could probably make my own opacity maps. I also like the look of the Exoline Boots, which I had used in a previous render.

Here is a render of the outfit with its default materials. And bonus full-body cowboy!N next to the G8F. (The Hat is from some G2M Surf's Up outfit. I want to invest in one of those ponytail hats for G8F.)

I'm mainly trying to recreate these characters for drawing references. They will never be exact here in DS. But then that has not stopped other Patreon fan artists when they do their thing...

A while back, someone was asking about the Martian Princess Base by Gareee. (And the Accessory Set.) I did this render with the base autofitted to G8F and the accessories parented because they got warped. I had to use a fabric shader with my own colors because I did not like how the original materials looked. As for the character, this is 100% Pretty3D's Pretty Base character, with the Kanade Hair, which actually looks like it's part of the outfit. I used Tara 2 HD's demon/evil skin with adjustments.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one here who wants more dForce draped outfits for G8M...here is a kitbash experiment trying to use the dForce Black Guard outfit with the dForce Matador's cape (and slippers). The Black Guard outfit kept exploding. I think I turned off self-colide and then simulated from this pose and it turned out good like this.

I might have to redo N again, now that Yuzuru 8 has been released. (I still can't believe he's a "Core" character. I thought he was gonna be a regular PA character and still planned to get him anyway.)

Anyway, here's some cancelled and very grainy renders I did of Yuzuru 8 cosplaying Professor Sycamore from Pokemon XY (Gen 6/Kalos region.) His whole outfit is just the dForce Pack Leader Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s) but mostly recolored with Fabric Basics Mix and Match for Iray. I need a more accurate hair though. I'm sure I have one I can stack to make it look like his.

Here is a quick render of Acicia. My only two gripes with her is that her eyes are always slit like this and she doesn't seem to come with a no lipstick option. But if you have the Daz Original G8F head morphs, you can just use the Pupils Slit morph at -65% and that makes her eyes look normal. I was playing around and zeroed out her eyelashes in the normal eyes render. Oops. XD

    Acicia default:

I will try to see if I can do a render with her and Yuzuru 8 tomorrow...or at least some time this weekend.

This edited skin was an attempt to make a stubble-free/smoother Edward 8 skin. Found it easier to edit the forehead wrinkles, crows feet, and mouth details into Foster's skin. After all, I've grown to like that skin for a particular project I had in mind. The G8M shape is also part of the project. I like his looks now.

Not sure if I should do his hands and feet too. This character is intended to be mostly covered up. I must also find some gloves, preferrably the kind that loads one at a time, instead of both at once.

Another fan art. This was orginally just me trying to test out a skin for this G8F version of a pokemon character, but the whole render came out better than expected. Here is a link to the DAZ Gallery version which isn't a collage, but the proper render with some post-work [x].

Her name is Concordia. I don't even remember her head shaping recipe but I do know that she contains Tasha 8 and that's why she ended up having such big lips. Her body is like 71% Zelara 8, 50% Botan by Mousso, and 50% Albany by Mousso. The reason I did the collage is just too look at what I had to work with and how I did a bit of mixing and matching to get the approximation. Due to how the Perrin Hair is, her two cowlicks had to be more towards the center of her head, which was probably for the best because I had so much trouble with Ghetsis's hair spike being right up there in the front.

Here is another render of her without the light make-up, as I think she should be. She uses BJ Misumi/Misha skin.

This is another test render I did. It's just Victoria 8 at 100% with Osiune(?) textures and eyebrows, and Voss Hair.

I had to re-save this as .JPG because the .PNG was too big for the forums. Anyway, I really don't see how her shape is ugly as people claim it is. It's the skin that's not doing her any justice. But then, that's the problem with many of these "base figures". Yes, this has the HD too, which was PC+ for the day, just like the Addison Hair.

Because of this comment, I had no idea that I now own a character no longer avialble for sale, but also I now have an incomplete Pro Bundle, since I do not own the other character that was substituded in

Glumgurgle HD for Ollie 8 is actually one of the characters I had installed, because I wanted to use his skin to make undead characters, but never got around to doing it. XD I am loving how the Aegis Outfit actually fits him, even though that outfit is like the closest thing I've seen to sexy male fantasy outfits that compliment whatever those sexy fairy/elf girls wear. XD

First render I did, but to test out how the skirt draped.

Obligatory, redo-render that had better lighting and you can see him more clearly.

Finally, I did a render with the pink-haired sister, Anthea.

I should've used the glass floor prop but I remembered mid-render and didn't want to stop to try again. The reason I finally did this was because I was playing around trying to kitbash the best parts from Pretty3D's Sweet Pain and Val3Dart's Twilight Sorceress. This girl needs thicker eyebrows. I should've used those AprilYSH OnFleek eyebrows instead of Macarena's eyebrows.

No quick face test renders this time around. One of these days I should really render both of them together. But the last time I tried to render two G8s together, DS crashed one hour into it for no reason.

Attempted to bring back another V4/Genesis 1 character onto G8F. This time, it's Valea's Cat with her Hair. Unlike my other attempt, for this one, I tried to quickly dial-spin an approximation (Monique 8 Head - 50%, Tasha 8 Head - 50%, and Zola HD Head - 50%). Outfit is once again a Sweet Pain and Twilight Sorceress kitbash. Background is from Maclean's Fashion Studio.

For her body, I simply used my two favorite G8F shapes (Monquie 8 Body - 100% and Olympia 8 Body - 100%).

A front shot. That front braid keeps getting mangled up with Autofit. I'm tempted to download the V4 version and see if it can be trasferred over to G8F with at RiverSoft Art/Sickleyield hair script.

I used Map Transfer for the torso, face, lips, and limbs textures. However, I haven't gotten around to editing the limbs onto the "donor" G3F/G8F UV texture I'm using which belongs to Lyoness' Kingsley HD for Genesis 8 Female. (And I must redo the lips, because I decided to touch it up a bit with some foundation from the SS Makeover Merchant Resource for G3F. The diffuse maps for both are very similar in color, the only difference is that Cat is a bit more yellow. I probably should've used Kingsley herself to recreate Cat, but Cat looks like a Raiya character, so I need to incorporate one into this mix to complete the look. I need to go back and fix the eyebrows on this diffuse map too.

I've been on the fence about getting Merchant Resources to use for getting pre-G3 UV makeups and/or skins "upgraded" but in the end, I've realized that I'm not going to ever be a merchant and have absolutely no plans to redistribute my results, so I can use skins from characters I already own. Though how I see it, in this case, Kingsley got an extra fantasy skin and makeup.
