I'm guessing it doesn't matter as this is an external program to D|S, and modifies the character textures.

So you know, Iray has its own decal feature, which has been talked about here a number of times. User  Will Timmons has written a tutorial on it. You can also often use a geoshell to layer a decal over skin.
