I quite often get asked if I want to turn off the limits or not, when...for instance...adding wardrobe to a figure. I'm never sure which to choose. In general, which choice is better than the other?
This is referring to the limits in the Parameters pane for how far a joint can move with the slider. You can turn off limits again at any time if you find you need to for a particular pose, but it is better to leave them on. Other people may have different opinions.
No you can get asked about limits even if the pose is created for the figure you are using. Some poses require the limits to be turned off so that the pose can look right.
Turning off limits isn' what is causing the distortions that is what can sometimes happen if you use poses created for another figure it can usually be rectified by restoreing the the pose of the joint effected.

Leave the limits on is my advice.

Thank you. I really had only a vague idea of what it meant before you replied to my post.
When applying a pose if you leave limits on the pose will often not look the same as the icon.
Personally I always turn limits off.
You only really get asked about limits it you're trying to apply a pose to a figure it wasn't designed for.
Sometimes, turning limits off makes weird distortions in the figure, like stretching the feet to about 10 meters long!
EDIT: ignore me!

Aha! Thanks for that
