Why are my skin textures shiny gold....

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi Everyone,

Most of my skin textures are fine, but I have bought a few models that look great in the pics, but when I apply the skin mats they are all solid shiny gold. What would cause this to happen? The morphs work fine and I can use other model skin mats but not the ones that come with the model. That sort of defeats my purpose of buying the model. The models are purchased from Daz and are both Male and Female.

Any ideas?

    Midas touch?

Do they just show in the viewport as 'golden' or do they render that way too?

If they also render that way, what lights do you have in the scene and what are your render settings?

Need more information. Which material set are you applying to your character, and does it look the same at render that it does in the viewport? I've never seen a skin material which looked 'gold' before, as even particularly glossy ones generally come out fine during render. Screenshots of the 'gold skin' you speak of might help us visualize the problem as well.

Which program? DAZ Studio? My best guess is that they textures are setup for Poser and have way to much Specularity and sometimes even reflection turn on (as they then use some Poser material settings to level this that doesnt work in DS.

So, check under surface tab and try to turn off reflection and turn down specularity, you need to play until you find the correct settings, then you can save the material as a DS material preset.

Another thing, could be that you load Poser presets and not DS presets when they do exist but somewhere else in the DS structures.

I think I found the issue. Taking your advise I checked the shaders and found 6 of my models loaded with Specular and Glossiness at 100%. I don't know why it did that but turning Glossiness off seems to work and they render nicely. Thanks for the advise and pointing me into the right direction. I don't know much about how to manipulate shaders but I guess I have to learn. lol.

    Thanks again.

This will give you a good place to start, as far as skin shaders are concerned: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/20658113-how-to-use-the-elite-human-surface-shaders

While the topic is in the air, what do variations on textures mean.
What I'm talking about is in Yago, a great texture, yet it comes with a Uber version and other options as well?
On the same subject, what about props and buildings that give REM and INJ options.
All of them seem pretty good.
PS, I would not ask if the original question on the forum page did not already have some sort of resolution.
    Cheers

There was a time in which the then-current version of DAZ Studio didn't come with advanced shaders like Elite Human Surface Shader or Ubersurface. They were available as a separate purchase. Including DS default shader mats would ensure that all DS users would be able to use the character. It's perhaps less important these days, as DS4 (and some versions of DS3) include one or more advanced shaders. But many vendors still include the default mats, either for the benefit of those individuals who still prefer to use the older versions of DS, or for people who just like to have that option available.

INJ and REM stand (I believe) for "inject" and "remove." So they're not really options...they're functions, to apply or remove a morph, for instance.

I have a character (maybe Petra for V4) that always looks gold in the viewport for some reason, but renders perfectly fine.

It can be disconcerting at first just how different the viewport often is to the render
