Stupid DIM

What is wrong with the DIM? No offense but it's installing files left and right into paths that when I try to merge models or other stuff it's not finding anything. Or saying I don't have the essentials. 3 times I've reinstalled Daz just to get the same error. If I have to manually install everything then just remake a new installer that can install correctly or not have an installer at all. Spent money to get a product like this I'm not satisfied at all. Not only that but the content library doesn't show [content] and right clicking only disconnects me and a screen that pops up to tell me to send a bug which I can't even send the bug what a waste that was too.

Did you install the various Starter Essentials sets and the Default Resoruces, all included with Daz Studio? Did you install PostgreSQL (not the Valentina to PostgreSQL Conversion tool, one of the actual PostgreSQL packages)? Are you using the default paths or have you customised them (for example to place the content on a mechanical drive rather than use up space on an SSD drive?

I'm not sure where you are right-clicking when you get a crash - Daz Studio does not need to be connected at all if you are installing via DIM.

What operating system are you using, and what - if any - security software?

Do you know how to set up the paths? Let's double check. The cog in the upper right of DIM will open several tabs, including where to download. That has to match the studio setup- which is Edit>Preferences>Content tab>Content Directory Manager at the bottom>then Daz Studio (and click to open the submenu, see if it matches.)  You can also look to the left at Directory and click to Add, if you didn't have what you wanted.

Second, if it says you don't have the essentials, then you probablty don't have them installed.  In DIM, in the search, type in Genesis Starter Essentials (or Genesis 2, 3)

And whenever you install things, DO NOT have your studio open.

I experienced the samething when I didn't use the defaults on both Windows and Mac. I got a bigger drive and went with the defaults.

You don't need to use the defaults (I don't) but you do need to point Studio to your non default installs in its Content Directory Manager.

  • (I never ever use the DIM)

make your own mydaz3dlibrary, include a runtime .

Download all your zips to a folder of your choice. open it, then make a new folder on your desktop.  use pea zip. its free and brilliant. highlight all your zips and extract them into the new desktop folder. then open a another new desktop folder and call it (ready for DAZ).  double click each unzipped folder in turn and move the inner files into the new (ready for daz) folder.  (when finished move each new folders (files)) ,ie data, people presets, runtime, templates etc into their relevant folders in your MYDAZ3DLibrary, (ie. files inside data to MYDAZ3DLibrary data).  That way, you know that you have installed them into the correct place, unlike DIM which puts lots of files where it (THINKS) they should go.

It may be a longer way around. but not one of my files are in the wrong place.  Dont forget to point DAZ , (through the content Directory Manager) to your (MYDAZ3Dlibrary). By thw way I have 120Gb of DAZ files so it pays to know where they are. and they are all backed up as I suggest you do, if you haven't already. (Dangerous doug)

Please don't encourage people to not use DIM.  DIM installs to where you tell it to, you just have to take the time to open the preferences and set them to your liking.  DIM is especially useful for installing shaders and plug-ins as they contain program related files not just content files.

Please remember that this is the New Users Help Forum,  It is designed to help New Users to get to grips with their new software in the easiest and friendliest way, and thus is moderated a little more strictly than the general forums.

AS Jestmart says   DIM  is designed to make things easy, and to allow those who are trying to help New users to be able to advise them becasue using DIM content will be filed in the right places, as long as DIM is set up properly.  SO they can either say look here, or look there, or OK if it's not there let's see what you may have done wrong and know they can sort it out.

It may be fine for you to work your own way though, but please allow others to teach the New Users to do it the correct was from the beginning.   Thankyou
