What do I do?

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi guys,

Look, sorry if I'm dense, but I can't work out how to get started. I have tried to follow some tutorials on here, but I just can't work out what to do.

I downloaded the Daz 4.5 installer. Went through the install fine. When I load it, I appear to have absolutely no actors, props, etc available. I looked for the genesis essentials starter pack, which says it comes with Daz, but the page just redirects me to the daz studio download, so I assume it was part of the installer already? I downloaded an old free copy of Victoria 4 free, and tried to install that, redirected the install location to C:\Users\\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library, and installed the exe's, but still northing appears in DS. What do I have to do to get started? The tutorials here talk about installing a content creator toolkit and fantasy starter for genesis, but I can't even find those.

Help?

    welcome to the forums :)
You're not dense by a long shot! We've all been there. Someone will be on to help you shortly I'm sure. (But it's going on 2:30am so most folks in the eastern half/southern half of US are probably asleep.

Firstly, ensure that you have downloaded all the necessary files which came with Daz Studio's installer. The big one is the Genesis Starter Essentials. Check your downloadable products for this all important installer as without it you can't use any Genesis figures at all. While you're at it, check your downloads for ALL installers and ensure you run them all. Each one provides different enhancements for Daz Studio and content, which you'll need if you want to get started.

So, in brief: Click on "My Account" then "My Downloadable Products" and look through the listed files for the Genesis Starter Essentials. If it's not there, and you've made a purchase of Daz Studio 4.5, then contact support for further assistance.

...I downloaded an old free copy of Victoria 4 free, ...but still northing appears in DS.

That's normal for old DAZ stuff (and non-DAZ stuff).

It won't show up in 'Smart Content'. You should be able to get to it by the traditional method, the 'Content Library'.

By the way, I'd recommend using the new DAZ Install Manager to take care of installing the Starter Essentials pack.

    .

And is there a good, simple instructions/tutorial for that? I'm stuck there, too :(

Use the Menu Window>Panes (Tabs)>Content Library Once it opens dock it to a place you like. I placed mine right next to Smart Content. Then when looking for your content look in My Library>Poser Formats first and then in the My Library>Daz Studio Formats for Daz only versions of the same content. You will (should) find the Daz versions of Textures and Poses but Not always. Some items are setup to Auto load the Daz versions right from the poser folder.

Did you point the Content Directory Manager to the location of your library?

    Hi, thanks for your help.

I had downloaded DAZ from http://www.daz3d.com/products/daz-studio/daz-studio-what-is-daz-studio. When I go into My Account, I can see it in My Orders, but in My Downloadable Products there is nothing at all. Should the initial order have given me access to this Genesis Starter Pack you mentioned? It's not in there...

Go to the STORE not the page and BUY the free version of Daz Studio 4.5. Then you will get all the files you need. Put it in your cart and check out. It will be free and then you will get all the items and a Serial code that will work for all updates to 4.5.

You'll need to add it to your cart. This is required for two reasons. The first and biggest of which is that you'll want a serial code to unlock Daz Studio to the Pro edition so you can access all of its features. The second of which is so that you can access the content required to properly use it.

Check your Itemised order History. If the Item is in there you can check to reset it, and it will appear in your available downloads.

Thank you, that worked. Well, it worked in tat there are a bunch of products I can download, and I am downloading Daz, the genesis starter pack and the content creation kit as I type.

Honestly, the other page which lets you download just Daz, puts nothing in your queue, and installs a non-working product (because there's no content at all) with no indication of what is wrong needs to go away - it's stupid, and it almost turned me away from the product, as I suspect it will have done to others.

Luckily the forum is so friendly and helpful. Thanks!

I don't remember the Content Creation Kit being a separate download!!! :bug:

If you got it from that initial DS link then its one several items that are free only because they are now built into DS 4.5.

But if new comer check daz sight then go to free product,(usually we do so)
    and install them.
    http://www.daz3d.com/free-3d-models-and-content?p=1

he may download which need not anymore (because it came with daz studio 4.5)
    and try to install all.

many user do not care , because already know clear what they need and what they need not
but I feel,, why daz can not more arrange well and append description,, what need and what need not
about each product in daz shop?

DAZ sell product, but they can not manage well .

DAZ shop often confuse new user manytimes. without improvement,, many user may give up or
just kill their time, I think. it is far from what DAZ say in their CM .

    Not user friendly at all..

    That's true, this may help...

These items do not have to be 'bought' separately:

    Content Creation Toolkit
    Autofit
    Texture Atlas
    3D Bridge
    FBX plugin

    all are included in DS4.5
