New User: Frustrated Beyond Belief

I am, as the title said, frustrated beyond belief with this program (DS4.5).

I take 5 steps back every time I try to take one. Nothing has worked like it should. Installers seem to break everything that's done before, and on top of that, the program runs like a dog. I've yet to find a good tutorial or help system to learn it or even figure out why things break?

i don't know if I should switch down to DS4, see if that works better, try out Poser instead or what.

And I don't know if I should find another forum to seek answers to...while the folks here are super helpful and friendly, this is still owned, operated, and controlled by the company who makes the software, so best answers may not always be forthcoming.

My deal is literally to be able to work with a program for a bit then to be able to make it do what I need....but so far I just can't get anything working.

If you are having problems with DS4.5, we need a bit of information in order to help you.

First of all, what Operating System are you using, and what EXACT version of DAZ Studio 4.5. What are your machine specs, RAM, video card, HDD space etc. Where are you installing content to? Are you uisng the default location, are you using the DIM?

When you say installing breaks things, what do you mean exactly? The program runs like a 'dog', what is that supposed to mean? I have been using DS for several years, and I am using the latest version od DS 4.5.1.56, and it runs very well indeed, as it does for most people. Your main problem may be an underpowered machine, but we will never know what the problem is until you answer a few questions.

If you ask for help on these forums, it is generally given, and given quickly, especially in the New Users Forium.

First, DS 4.5 is way better and faster than DS 4.0.
Second, your problems seems to be in no particular order.
    - Installing content
    - DS overall performance

As Jimmy said, we need to know what your rig is and your software versions before answers can be found, and specially if your content problems are related to Smart Content / Content Manager or related to the content browser. They are two very different entities and it ca easily be confusing to know why something shows up in one place and not the other. Some history though, the reason for the complicated file structure of the Runtime is the Poser legacy.

    Scavenger,

I've had problems galore too, but I've persevered and figured them out, and I'm finding it worth it, as DS is turning into fun, now I've got it running.

Drop all the info you can here, even little details, and we'll what we can offer to help out. I was plagued by it and gave up several times, but kept returning stubbornly. It turned out that I needed just one basic piece of information that I lacked to get things to start falling into place, so don't overlook anything. Tell us, even if it sounds silly, as mine did :)

    Keep at it!

    Mark.

Daz Studio has a bit of a learning curve, it can take a bit to figure out! Don't despair! It gets better!
