Released: Versatile Glass Custom Shader for Iray + Presets [commercial]
Released: https://www.daz3d.com/versatile-glass-shader-custom-shader-and-presets-for-iray
In almost every scene you have some glass, may it be a window, a prop, a mirror or whatever.
Glass or surfaces with a glassy look can be so very different. Think only about the different types of glass or surfaces that look like glass, like window glass, Plexiglas, minerals like diamonds, ice and much more. Glass has different refraction indexes based on the material.
If you like to have it realistic and detailed and do not want to struggle with the set up in Iray then this custom glass shader for Iray is right for you.
Included is a custom shader with lots of controls (basic and advanced ones) you can use to set up your glass surfaces easily. Starting from the refraction index which can be set freely, the glass color, the surface structure to special effects like glowing glass, metallic layers and more.
For an easy and quick start there are also lots of presets included. Realistic refraction index presets for 16 types of glass or glass like materials like window glass, Plexiglas, Diamond, Silicon, Flint Glass and more. 6 different structures for the surface and tiling options. Your own bump and normal maps for other structures can be included in the shader too. Presets for basic colors, glowing effects, metallic layers, aberration, reflection, tint effect are included as well.
There are almost endless possibilities to set up the materials like you want it to have. Either by mixing the presets or setting up the shader controls by yourself, completely or using presets as a base for further adjustments. Saving your own presets for the the custom shader is possible too of course.
The provided presets are only for a quick start. The shader is not limited to the presets. You can freely set up any value, exactly as you need it.

I don't understand how this works, from your description. Is this a script? I already have access to the "Shader Controls" via the Surfaces->Editor. I already have a lot of shader products for glass. I'm not trying to be difficult. What I'm saying is, I need more information about the product. Without giving away trade secrets, can you explain how this product is going to make it easier for me to create a custom glass shader?
Also, do you include a pdf, or other document, with instructions? Will I learn how to create glass statues like the ones in your promos? The three ladies on pedastals have hair and appear to be wearing some sort of dress, yet the glass appears to be solid, as if the hair and dress are part of a single object. (Really nice effect, by the way.) Will I know how to do that from the information this product supplies?
Simply put, this looks really, really good, but I need some convincing to buy yet another glass shader product.
Ok, well. Let me try to explain this a little more, hope I am able to (since I am not English speaking ;) )
It is not a script. It is a Custom Shader with custom controls. Maybe I should have posted the promos showing the controls too. I will do here now. There you can see what type of controls you have.
With simpler naming etc. it is more clear ( in particular for unexperienced Iray users ) what they are actually setting up. Like Glass Color, Glass Frosted etc.
Maybe you know my "Easy Liquid Custom Shader" product. This one here is build the same way, but with the focus on Glass and glasslike surfaces and effects for glass.
You do not have to create a custom glass shader, this one here is one.
Well, there is no manual or something that teaches you how to create other surface maps (which are actually bump/normal maps). The custom shader utilizies there the default bump/normal channels. This enables you to use any bump/normal map you like as "surface map". I included a selection as a start, maybe I am gonna do an update too with lots more surfaces. But basically since you can use any bump/normal map you like it is easy to create your own surface structures. The ones from my Easy Liquid work too for instance and others for instance from Metal Shader products. With adjusting the tiling, presets are included too or manually, you can get almost any effect you like. Only thing I suggest that the maps you use are seamless for a better look like the ones included in this product.
This product is actually not something you will create props with, like the glass statues I used in the promo. It is for the surfaces on any prop, figure etc. you want to use it with. What I did with the statues, I simply added the custom shader to all surfaces of the prop and made my settings. The statues are a prop from another product, originally made of stone You can add to hair, clothing etc. of course too. But it depens on the prop/figure you are using. The shader does not change the UV or geometry.
Well , if you need it or not, only you can decide :) The main purpose of this product was to make it easier for people to set up glass, either by using the presets or adjusting the shader manually to their needs.
For basic glass you would only need a few of the controls like IOR (presets for several realistic glass and glass like elements are included) and the glass color and maybe the reflectivity. For more advances set ups, you will have other controls.
Hope this explains it a little more :)
I do not have the "Easy Liquid Custom Shader" but I've heard very good things about it from people I trust. I have it in my wishlist now and expect I'll pick it up soon. If the glass shaders are built the same way, I suspect I'll be happy with them. Are they in the same price range as the Liquid shaders? If so, I may pick them both up when this product is released.
Glad to hear that you heard of good experiences with them.
They are built the same way and are similar to use yes.
The price range is the same :)
I think they will be released with the usual 30% off.
I have a lot of glass shaders too but I will be picking this one up as well. Looks fantastic
Glad to hear! Thanks :)
Very nicely done. One thing I've been wanting for a long time is metalicized glass for say helmets sunglasses and visors would this work?
Thank you. There is a metallic outer layer feature included and also some presets.
I do not know what you actually have in mind with metallized glass?
If you mean that it looks metallic but still a little transparent with high or almost mirrored reflection than you can do this with the shader.
I will create a render for you that shows what I mean.
well. I did 2 renders using the metallic outer layer effect. The helmet with medium strength in a greenish color and the sun glass with high strength in a yellow color.
You can also get a nice effect for things like that by using the "TINT" presets for a slightly tinted glass and then adjust the reflectivity.
The third render shows the tinted glass effect with a blue-green color with low reflection. and the same with more tint and higher ref.
For all I used Plexiglass as IOR.
maybe those are that what you had in mind.
I have no idea what Serene Night had in mind, but I think these are fabulous. Wow. Keep showing us more examples of what this product can do, if you have the time. The more I see, the more I think this is a must-have for my runtime. What say the rest of you guys?
Bravo! Exactly what I meant and was looking for. Metallic sunshades. Those look great! I've been really looking for shaders to make my vizors and glasses look great, and I think your images have convinced me to buy it!
I was already thinking that I have some iray glass shaders and presets, but could always use more, and a new shader looked interesting. Then those renders of the mirrored glass effects for sunglasses put me further over the top, I really like the way those are looking.
I also appreciate that it looks like the presets include some quick-reference refraction indexes. Very helpful so you don't have to go look up references for them!
Glad I did what you had in mind :) And thanks for the comments :) Good to hear that you guys find it useful and interesting.
You can use it nicely with visors or helmet as well, for intance some of those astronauts helmets have a little lighting inside.
Yes, you get 16 presets for different types of glass/glass like materials with the physical correct IOR
Refraction Indexes
Well I could have added more but I thought these are the most common ones, like Window Glass and Plexi Glass and some mineral glasses like Diamond and Ruby or crown glass for drinking glasses maybe.
Well the "very clear glass" is actually not physically existing, I just added to have some glass which appears even more clear and transparent with low refraction.
-double-
well here are some more. I also like the aberration effects (presets for different types are included too).
It gives a nice gradient look I think. Depending on the used light and environment it looks more intense or not.
Here combined with some tint colors. Different color effect depending on what aberattion is used and the tint/base color also has effect as well as the IOR.
