Daz Studio or Poser for basic character creation
So I am trying to figure out if I should go toward using Daz Studio or Poser for some very basic use. It seems that there is a lot of personal preference in the decision but not a lot of consensus. So let me lay out what differences I am looking to compare and what I don't care about.
First off I don't care about the UI. The reason for this is because one way or another I will be basically learning from scratch so either way I will have to learn that interface.
Secondly I am not interested in how much it costs. I have been blessed enough in my life that I am able to not have that worry plus if I wasn't doing this then I would be out drinking and partying so lots of money would be wasted anyway, at least with these I have something to show for it.
I don't care overly for which one uses more memory and processor though I am personally a fan of AMD and ATI so optimization for those would be nice.
I am interested in the ability for me to load up a character, put cloths on with the minimum of effort and clipping which I need to manually fix, pose them, and then put them into a basic scene so I can render and use it for making pictures of characters.
Organization of items and clothes so that I can tell that these clothes are made to fit this model, and these textures and colors are meant for these clothes is important.
There are a lot of the more advanced features I just don't care about, maybe someday but probably not.
I'm sure most of you who will see this post are several leagues above what I am looking at wanting but I am hoping that you can help me figure these things out.

Well, DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro is free, Poser isn't.
If you don't care about the cost, then buy Poser, and get DS for free, and then you'll have both, and you can decide. I don't think there is trial version of Poser, but there is Poser Debut, which was given away for free recently, and it doesn;t do very much.
Either of these programs, Poser or DAZ Studio, will do what you want really. If you don;t want to rush out and buy Poser, download and try DAZ Studio while it is still free. There is plenty of help here on the forums, especially for new users.
Everyone on this forum will have their own opinion, but since it is a DAZ forum, I would expect it to be heavily biased towards DS.
There is a big difference between not caring about cost and buying something that is unnecessary. I am unlikely to sit down and try both applications and more than double my time just trying to figure out which works best for what I want done, this is why I asked in the forum to get the views and opinions of a wide range of individuals. If I spent eight hours a day every day for the next two months trying to learn both then I would only be spending around 240 hours per application just to make the decision of which to use. I am guessing that in the seven and a half years the you have been on this forum alone you have probably racked up considerably more time that that using these applications. Now multiply that but the number of other users with a similar amount of time on the applications. This is a vast amount of information and experiences that I could not possibly have on my own. If I wanted to just try it out for myself and make a snap decision then I wouldn't come here and ask.
I would very much like to hear your opinions as well as the opinions of others on the specific points I have asked about.
I am sorry that you are taking that attitude. Which package that you decide on will be a personal preference, nobody but you can decide that. I have already said that either package will do what you want, the rest is up to you.
Threads like this are discouraged in other forums because it can only lead to app wars and nastiness.. In exactly the same way as 'which is bettter for me, PC or Mac' It is a personal choice. The next thing that happens, is that the thread is locked because people get angry, and the trolls appear.
Nobody can tell you which application will suit you best. You can quite easily try DAZ Studio for free, the complete version, and decide if you like the interface, or theway it renders or whatever. Both applications do more or less the same job, but as I also already explained, this is the DAZ 3D forum, so answeres are likely to be skewed to say the least.
Both can pose and render scenes, DAZ Studio uses the 3Delight render engine, Poser use Firefly. Which one is better, another personal preference. DAZ Studio used Qt Script, Poser uses Python. Poser can do some things that DS can't, but the reverse also applies.
If you are looking for a package to simply create and render scenes, then it is a matter of personal preference which one you like the best.
What is stopping you from downloading and trying DAZ Studio? As I have already said, there is plenty of help available on the forums here to get you started. Is there some particular questions that you need answered, then please ask them here, but in general, either application will do your job, and you must decide.
It is very difficult for anyone to give you a really informed decision as to which would suit you best.
You are on the DAZ 3D forum, so you would probably expect most people to be using Daz Studio. However there are still a great many people around who only use Poser, and we do have a Poser Specific Forum, as well as a DS specific forum.
I am one of the Poser users. I started using Poser before DS was invented, before there were even forums on the DAZ 3D site, and I still use Poser and don't use DS. However my son never got on with Poser, and he only really got interested in 3D art when DS came on the scene, and now he uses it almost exclusively, although he does have Poser and Carrara on his PC. SO there you have 2 people in the same family who prefer different programs.
The two programs do very similar things in the main. DS can do some things Poser can't, equally Poser has some features DS doesn't
The work flow is very different in the two. It is not easy to run a quick comparison.
