Parenting in animations

I think it is true that one cannot change parenting (or hierarchy) in the midst of an animation. The parenting starts at 0 seconds.
So how would someone, for example, sweep with a broom which catches the debris on the broom and carries it with the broom?
If you create a target helper on the broom and point to that with the debris at some later time, would the debris "attach" as the broom comes by?
Surely someone knows how to make a person pick up a ball and take it with them?

I use two and toggle visibility.
How about render two clips and piece them together in the video editor.
Hi :)
This was done last year to help answer a similar question
the little man is "always" holding a wheel/cog/thing) ,. and there's "always" a copy of that object lying on the ground.
One object becomes invisible,. on the same frame that the other object becomes visible.
So,. in your Broom sweeping scene,. the broom would always have debris attached to it,. and the floor would always have debris lying on it,.
you animate the broom,. and animate the Visibility / Invisibility of the debris, so that it appears to be vanishing from the floor,. and stuck to the broom.
Hope it helps :)

Did you switch visibilities?
Bob
all the time :)
Whenever I blink,.. everything disappears,.
Yeah, don't we all!
Thanks. I think that is an elegant solution even if it leaves invisible objects all around. They don't need feeding . . .

Cool Andy!
I use the same trick here:
Superb DUDU :)

Switching visibility is the usual trick. I cover this in my Animation for Carrara video training, both picking something up and throwing something.
