How can I load a content item to the spot I am currently at?

Often when I load content, it appears miles away from the figure I am working on. (e.g. because it is one room of a house that is centred at the centre of the house).

It takes ages finding it and laboriously dragging it back screen by screen to the centre of my work area

How can I specify where a content item loads to?

Some Items have a FIXED load position in the file, but if you Hold the ALT key down as you load the item you should get a Target on your screen under your pointer. It should load the item at it's center on the center of the target on the default Ground Grid done this way.

This is for Windows systems only, this is also in Mac's but I do not know which key it is.

The Mac key is opt. However, if the item is made off centre that won't help - you are telling DS where to place the origin when you alt/opt drag content in, so the item will be offset from the drop point as it would be offset from the origin if you just double-clicked. If you load the room first, then use the fram command to take your camera to it, then alt/opt-drag to load the other content that will work better.

    Ok, thank you.

So I can't edit the item's .CR2 file to change the offset point?

I would imagine so, if you know how to do it :)

The whole point of it loading in a pre-determined place, is so that the entire Dream Home can be assembled in the correct places to build the full house. If you change the point at which it loads, then it will load on top of other pieces of the house if you ever try to assemble it all, or even part.

Richard's idea is a much better one, and does not involve editing CR2 files, or anything complex, and leaves all the parts that they load in the correct place again for future use.

fair enough. I guess most of the time we'd only be using one room of the dream home, though. I can't imagine why you'd need to load the entire thing at once.

You might not want to load the whole set, but given the way that one part provides walls for another there's a good chance you will want more than one part loaded to give useful views.

Also, you might be able to see part of another room through a window or open door.
