I am thinking of returning to DAZstudio

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi, I am now back on my feet again after almost 2 years, so I am thinking of starting again with DAZstudio again but reading all the and seeing a whole new programme I am wondering if I will be able to grasp and work with all this newness. Just think, I now have so much time to myself I do need a hobbie more than ever now.

Welcome back. I think you'll love how easy Genesis has made it to create unique characters. No longer will a morph be set in stone, since you can apply varying amounts of a large variety of morphs to turn Genesis into any gender, age or even species. To get you started, I recommend getting a few things.

    Genesis Evolution Morphs
It's a set of morphs which will add a lot of customization to your character building. Genesis' strength is its versatility, so the more morphs you add, the more combinations you can splice together for your characters.

    Victoria 5 and Michael 5
The main reason I suggest these is that they add new UV sets for characters, allowing you to use a greater variety of skin textures. Of course, they also come with some good character shape morphs as well. The recently released Aiko 5 also comes with her own UV sets, but as she's still fairly new there aren't a wide variety of textures available yet. Many characters still use the Victoria/Michael 4 texture set, which Genesis can use out of the box, so all is not lost if you can't quite afford to get these yet.

Hopefully that wasn't too much to digest. If you have any queries about getting specific results, there are plenty of people here on the forum who can lend a metaphorical hand.

Nice to see you here again Paddy.

There are plenty of videos on Youtube to help, and quite a few free ones in the store now too from Dreamlight. DS4.5 is really super to work with, and Genesis is a great idea I think. You will get plenty of help here in the New Users Forum, and there is plenty to learn, never a dull moment :)

Yeah it has got a new skin and some new funcky functions but in essence it is still Daz Studio. I don't (sorry didn't) have much trouble going back and forth between the two versions (4.5 and 3A).

Come back! We could use another head in this mix :) Don't worry, I came to DS4 after years away and the previous app I used was Poser, and I picked it up pretty fast... well, maybe not so fast, but faster than I thought :)

Come join the Fun! DS4.5 is pretty good, and I have mine set up so that it looks almost just like my DS3A set up. It's just as easy to modify as DS3 was.

Welcome back Paddy. I'll add my endorsement of DS, though I'm using DS 4.0 Pro rather than the newer DS 4.5 Pro, but I also have my trusty DS 3 Advanced on the same computer, and I find them both equally easy to use. ;-)

    Hi Paddy!
There's so much help in the forums, you'll do fine. BTW, your dog avatar ROCKS!!! Who might that be? (As you can tell from my avatar, I'm an animal lover)

I can not speak highly enough about DAZ (despite the issues I have with the MAC version). I have wanted to get involved in 3D art and animation since the original Poser and Bryce 3D came out many moons ago. I also tried to learn Blender once upon a time and it just seemed way too complex for me. I might never become a content creator in the stores (the learning curve seems way too steep for me) but I am really having a tremendous amount of fun creating 3D art for the first time. I will also say that the Smart Content and new DAZ Install Manager are really fantastic. You can create amazingly detailed scenes really quick.

Warning! The DAZ store is a bit addicting! There are so many amazing artists/content creators on there that it is hard to resist buying everything that goes on sale! ;)

I only started using DAZ in November so I am definitely not as skilled as others in the forums, but check out my deviantart link in my signature to see what stuff I have done with no formal training and no real extensive experience with other 3D apps.
