Shadows, where are they?

Hi - I have finaly finished the first pic of my Little Soldiers project (see att) I am very pleased with it but there are no shadows which, consequently, makes the main character look as if he is suspended in mid-air. How do I get shadows please? I guess it must be down to camersa and lighting.  All suggestions welcomed.

If that's in Iray and you are not using a ground prop, turn on Draw Ground in the Environment group of Render Settings.

Hi Richard. Thanks as always for coming to the rescue. I am sorry to appear so thick but I am unsure whether of not I was in Iray, I did not conciously select it. I guess I'm still to much of an amateur. I am using a ground prop, I think it's called 'Land' I would welcome your advice on how to make the ground more realistic, it needs a more realistic ground cover of some sort.

As always, your guidance and advice would be most welcome.

    Best wishes.

Iray is the default - if you go to render Settings and look at the top of the pane in the Editor or Advanced tab there will be a button showing the current engine, and allowing you to change it. If it is Iray you want the Environment group of controls, on the left when in the Editor tab, and then turn on Draw Ground in the actual controls on the right.
