Shader Information

I was wondering how important is it to use shaders? I am learning as I go but I do not know much about shaders.

Techncially speaking it's vital - no shader, nothing for the renderer to work with. A shader is the code that tells Iray or 3Delight how a surface, light, or camera behaves. Daz studio comes with several shaders for both Iray and 3Delight, and most store content will either use those or use a custom shader. You can adjust the settings of the currently applied shader through the Surfaces pane. If you wish you can also create your own shaders, through Shader Mixer, Shader Builder (for 3Delight), or through hand-written code.
Which aspect are you asking about? You don't need to make any changes to things you are happy with, but if there are aspects of a render you are unhappy with they may be things that can be fixed by adjusting the shader settings or applying a different base shader.
Ok I see. So pretty much if I have leather that isn't looking correct the shader will help it look the way it should when it renders. ^^ Thanks a million. You explained pretty much what I needed to know.
