DAZ Install Manager - Why can't you use the same directories? All my Poser content is already sorte

edited March 2013 in New Users

I wanted to use the DAZ install manager, but it tells you to use a new install folder. Why is that, will it change my structure/files or is it just a precaution because if you screw something up they aren't responsible. Because I'm not sure it's worth having everything new installed into a different runtime. I was actually hoping to add multiple runtimes so that I can continue to sort my content (I have folders for V4, Animals, etc., a lot). It would be a pain in Poser and even DS to have to navigate to another one when I have spent so much time keeping it separated. Plus for Poser, don't some of the files HAVE to be installed into the program folder (like morphs etc.) because I have always kept the base files, like the characters and their morphs and addon morphs, etc. in the program folder.

Also, shouldn't it show the previous content that is already installed? It chose the same DS folder, yet it shows 0 installed.

Thanks

ETA, I was incorrect, that is not my installed DS folder, I forgot I have it installed on a different drive now. But either way, I can't tell what is installed since they are all "ready to download" even though most are already installed.

I'm not going to attempt to answer the first part of your question, as I don't have separate runtimes set up, but I know there are a lot of users that do categorize their products, and one of them will probably show up here soon to tell you how to do that.

That said, I can tell you that DIM will not show any currently installed products in DS. IOW, it only shows you what you installed through DIM. I don't know how many products you have installed in DS, but if you wanted to have everything you have purchased show up as installed in DIM, you would need to uninstall those already installed, and reinstall through DIM. I, myself, am on a newish laptop, so I haven't as yet reinstalled everything I had installed on my old laptop, so I'm considering doing just that in order to have all my DAZ products show up as installed whenever I fire up DIM.

Click on the little cogwheel icon to open the settings options. From here you can add install to libraries to your heart's content.
