    Thanks Kismet. I didn't even notice that she had no eyebrows untill you mentioned it. I used the Lady Rune maps.

    It has been quite sometime since i joined in on challenge so decided to have another go. No post work done, and didnt let it cook fully, not sure how much DOF i want so didnt do it yet. Still undecided on light scheme and camera angle.

    Not really an environment what you see is what it is, that door, a and a plane for the floor. However the doors came from this set https://www.daz3d.com/space-station-living-quarters

    I would suggest nailing down the camera angle first.  You can experiment with the perspective view then load a camera to match the view.  I sometimes have several cameras in an image when I am not sure which one I want to use.

    Once you have decided on the camera angle then you can experiment with DOF and lighting.

    Here we go with version e.  I moved him to his right a bit after parenting the camera to him and also did some retexturing in the backgroung.

    Trying out a couples portrait and using Filter Forge for postwork.  I've never used a vignetting effect before so I can't say if it's too exageratted or not.

    The vignette feels a little on the heavy side to me, but it really depends on the look you're going for. Your theme and pose have the feel of an old-timey, sepia toned image and a heavy vignette would be perfectly appropriate in that case

    Looks pretty great otherwise... love the lighting and pose!

    This is my second entry into the competition.  All work was done in Daz Studio.

    I like the changes you made to her pose.  Did you change the camera slightly?

    I really like the choice of red with blond stripes in her hair.  Very striking.

    A rim light on the left of the image, your character's right, would help her stand out from the background.

    I tried for 3 hours to put a back light in, but every render would have a white speck on her forehead show up - and only after 90% rendered!  I didn't want to mess with any other lights so I gave up .  crying

    Sometimes that happens.  Even though you did not succeed on this image it was good pratice.  Frustrating....but good practice.

    This is a really good start. A couple of things to work on. The hand holding the knife needs a little work as the fingers seem to be intersecting the handle and each other. Hand posing can take a long time and be frustrating, but getting it right will make a huge difference in the image.

    The lower hand doesn't seem to serve a lot of purpose and I find it a bit distracting the way it enters the frame.

    Now is a great time to play with facial expressions. This seems like the default expression, but I could be wrong about that since the angle of his head isn't straight on. Is he struggling to drag himself up using the back of the chair to help? If so his face could reflect the effort - even if it is very subtle - if he's just moping then something else altogether. Also, play with his eyes a bit, changing what he is looking at - maybe at (or near) the camera? This can be fun and lead to all sorts of unexpected outcomes (some even good :) ).

    But really a great start.

    Thanks.  Yeah, originally he was looking at the knife, but it gave him giraffe neck. haha.  I didn't think of looking at the camera. 

    He is laying on a red couch.  It took me half a day to figure out my life would be easier if I parented him to the couch and then parented the knife to his hand.  I would move something then move the knife to catch up soooo many times... what a noob!  Haha, but little by little... learning.

     I really hate his hand.  I tried grasping and fist poses, and ended up dragging his fingers all over the place!  I'm sitting in my lazy-boy holding a large pen, looking at the screen, saying 'nooo  that's not right either'   :)

    As for the lower hand/wrist... if it is not there how do I convey that he's contemplating suicide?  I don't want him threatening me, the viewer, with the knife... or do I... you have opened a can of new worms I had not thot of...dang - I can see I'm going to be spending another day or more with this dude!

    I still fight with the light, and have the feeling I miss the monthly motto, because I spend too much time with the interior. blushlaugh

    This is the second version of my portrait of Monie. I have moved the spotlight behind the girl slightly and lowered the light intensity.

    I can't tell you the iterations this guy has gone thru.  Initially I took out the other arm but he just kept being creepy.  I changed his face (eyes and mouth) to look more sorrowful.

    I watched a few of the "Great Art Now" tutorial series from the Daz Shop.  Most are free and have alot of great info.  I saw how to more easily do poses and it really helped in changing this guy.

    I lifted his face and alto I loved the lighting before, I wanted to more hilight his eye so I increased that lighting.

    The knife shadow on his face, sometimes I hate it, sometimes I love it.

  • Updated my previous scene as the 'badass' version of the character looked so good! Toned down the leather jacket gloss so it looks more like synthetic material which is more realistic for a deep space ship.

    Nice work so far.

    Question, who is she, and if your using a morph what base figure? She's a cutie.

    So I wanted to try to capture the roguish look of your Han Solo, Peter Quill, and Flynn Ryder types in this guy. Still tweaking the facial features but I have the basic look that I want. 

    This is all still rough draft with a bunch of new shaders that will be going into it, new background for the small glimpse out the window, fine tuning lights. Just wanted to put this up so I'd hopefully motivate myself a little more to actually finish it. 

    Don't quite know what to do with the hands. Don't really want him offering a drink since I did that and it went from curiously roguish to date rapey really fast. Go figure.

    Nice frame and DoF achieved. Also sweet expression. Nothing to change there. :) As far as hands go, maybe you could have that hand touch his chin since I don't think resting a palm on the cheek would do the way he is posed
