[WIP] CameraReady for DAZ Studio

Hello everybody,
many of the people here in the forums are already aware that I have developed a plugin for DAZ Studio as a thesis project.
Now that I am going to fiinish everything up today and officially graduate on the 21st of March I wanted to give you a little glimpse of the work I have done so far.

CameraReady for DAZ Studio (temporary name) is a plugin for DAZ Studio aimed at creating beautiful shots by defining photographics properties on the characters in the scene. For example, do you want to have a close-up on someone's face? Just tell the plugin and it will calculate the correct camera position for achieving this. You can also define multiple characters in the scene (even one with a close-up and one with a medium shots).

The software is based on an automatic camera control library developed by my releator and a master student.

At the moment everything is actually in full alpha stage and extremely slow due to DAZ SDK not having a proper ray cast primitive (I had to build the whole scene in Bullet Physics to achieve ray casting). In the next months everything will probabily become better.

A release date (even for the alpha version) is not known yet but I promise that I will keep you posted on this.

Meanwhile I leave you a screenshot of the plugin interface and an example of result. Also a video tutorial will be made in the next days.

You are free to tell me everything you see. Like it? Hate it? Explain everything and I will do the best to provide a solution.

    Holy crap! :bug:

I thought it was a reference photo! :gulp:

Looks like you're creating the legendary "make art" button

Seriously, if that's the result in 3Delight (and even if it's not) I love it! Anything that has photographic principles totally rulz, imho :cheese:

Well, that was LuxRender with Reality (postwork then).

Well most of the work is related to camera positioning.

Actually I just took that image out of my thesis. Glad you liked it!

If interested this is the photo I used to take inspiration. Camera is different due to I wanted a Long Shot with an high angle (ref for the bieginners http://www.mediacollege.com/video/camera/angles/)

    Congratz, gravity0. What a great idea !
Looking forward to seeing some more result shots of CameraReady, not to mention getting my hands on it. :)

Me thinks real-life should have a 'Change Problem' button too... :cheese:

I will post more result shots in the next days surely.

Actually on releasing it unfortuately it will take a while due to an updated cameraready library update and some licensing issues.

Obviously I will keep all of you posted. I really want to give you something more than this :(

I hope your teachers appreciate how good it is :cheese: I'm guessing that's the Riley for Stephanie 5 skin?

And I render in Reality/LuxRender all of the time and anything that helps with camera placement/lens settings is something I want

Actually is V5 Bree :) Didn't have other textures at that time :)

That's really exciting to see everybody liking this. :)

As promised more info soon :)

That is amazing, love the fact you got such a good render with the V5 Bree texture I use that one quite a bit myself. Never rendered anything out as well as this, looks beautiful.

Thanks to everybody for the lot of interest.

Well. Today I am finalizing the paper and tomorrow it will get printed. And on the 21st I graduate. Then I have talked to my relator who wants to go further on this. So there will be a LOT of possibilities that this will get out of the "thesis project" state and maybe will become even more than what I have showed you.

The areas of automatic camera control is continously improving and I can assure you that the results are AMAZING :)

For anybody that is crazy and knows italian I will also make the paper available. Not sure if I am going to translate it in english atm. We'll see it in a near future.

Thanks for the tip on Bree, Mattias :cheese: I'm Jaime, btw :-P My early experience with Reality/Lux led me to believe that photorealistic skins work best with them; I'm beginning to see that other high resolution skins work as well with the right settings in the material tab; currently using Bree for a render ;-)

    Thank you lordvicore.

For the guys who are still waiting for some news I want to tell you that on the 20th of March is the date for my graduations.

In the next days also I will update my website with some new features and a new domain and began to work on the plublic version of CameraReady for DazStudio which will actually have a new name (due to a change of name in the base library).

Actually I do not know which name to give to it so if you have an idea post it here :)

At the moment it does not take lighting into account. But regarding figures and props everything is included in the solving process.

Whoa whoa :) thanks to anybody.

ATM I am getting everything up again since I have wiped my laptop (I was waiting to finish the thesis and graduation) and I had to reinstall whole studio and SDK.

If you are willing to test I can provide you with the build I have been testing on for the graduation. It has to be considered very alpha and the code for the visibility has started to provide wrong result.

I am starting all over again since Smart Viewpoint Computation lib public build is available and most of my code has actually become "spaghetti" recently.

Anyway check my new site http://mattiascibien.net, under software->DAZ Studio Plugins there will be all of my work :) (Including a scene bounding box calculator I have written for some testing). Just let me take the time to sort everything out :)
