Invisible object problem

Some weeks ago I downloaded an object ( a rose bud) and added it to a project. I have started a fresh project and the only place I can find the rose is in smart content/scene

    Whoops I pressed the wrong button. Some weeks ago I downloaded an object ( a rose bud) and added it to a project (SadieFae with flower). , When the rose is inserted it I can only get the outline box on the rose but the rest of the screen responds to the display mode settings (Rose screenshot 1).
    In the other project (Rose) which only contains the rose (Rose screenshot 2) it displays just fine.
    I've tried all sorts of ways to get round this and finished up totally confused (as usual).
    This probably isn't sufficient information for you guys but I can't describe everything I've tried so perhaps I can provide more info as requested.

    Check the opacity settings for the invisible rose, in the Surfaces pane.
