Pred Pack - Grass how to use??

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi,
I bought Pred Pack - Grass One at: http://www.daz3d.com/pred-pack-grass-one
I downloaded it via Daz Install manager. It appears in my props, though how do I use it? When I double-click it, it doesn't load the grass into the scene. Do I need to apply it to something like a flat plane?

Thanks,

Dan

I don't have that particular product, sorry- but the fastest way to check is to simply go to create-new primitive-plane and try it. Before you do that, be sure you are selecting the actual item and not materials / textures. I've done that before, kept clicking, and wondering why nothing was loading- then I noticed I hadn't selected the right thing from the set.

Thanks. I finally found it under Poser Formats and then drilled down to Props.

I think there are some products that don't have ReadMe information, but that's another thing to keep in mind- it will tell you where the item is located. (the ReadMe's are a separate folder, a nice handy reference. It's a folder under My Library, depending on how you are set up.)

    Enjoy your grass! :)

When you downloaded it, the .exe file is for windows and the zip is for the Mac, if you downloaded manually. If you downloaded using the DIM then the file is OK for both formats.

When I read on the item page http://www.daz3d.com/pred-pack-grass-one it mention it comes with several ground babses, my guess would be that you need to first laod one of those bases and than load the grass onto that base. Hope this helps :)

I bought it recently- I'll go explore it, back in a bit.
    EDIT: No ReadMe file.

Here it is. I couldnt find it in the Smart Content, but it's in Content Library. Let me see what loads up. IMPORTANT EDIT:
These are the materials- go into Poser Props for the base. Continue reading this thread and you'll see the screenshot.

If you are using the Daz Install Manager, grab both those DIMS.
If not, manually download the exe files if you are on a PC OR the zip files if you are a MAC user, as stated earlier by Chohole.
then find the files over in Content Library where I've shown you.

This is a poser format Item with DS format textures. You first load the Poser version of the item (prop) then go and apply the DS texture file with the DS mat files so it renders properly in DS.

EDIT: Novica is correct, you need both of those files for DS.

TIP: If marked DIM you need ALL the DIM files for a item to work properly in DS4.5 or DS4.6.

Not necessarily, only if there's a PS (or unsuffixed) version and a StudioCF -- Companion File means it isn't stand-alone.

I like DIM because it install's any files needed for the Software selected. No guessing needed.

So folks can find it easier, I did a thread on how to create the plane and am working right now on screenshots for adding the grass. Not sure what the OP and other folks know, so this should get them zipping along.

Ducky, just ducky. The base is not wanting to load onto the plane for me. I changed my plane back to the original color, thinking maybe I just wasnt seeing it, but it's not loading onto the plane anywhere. Checked World Center and every bit of the plane. Anyone else had luck with this so I can finish the tutorial? (I changed the name of it for the moment and took off the grass reference, but I'm not giving up until we get this figured out.) Who else has the Pred One grass? OP, did you get it to work?

EDIT: shown are all the files. They are in props, as the other folks stated.

I'm going to track down Kerya, apparently in the old forums she (assume is a she?) had issues then solved them (had to do with the computer, not the product.)

Those are just the DS mats. The grounds are in Props under Poser Formats.

I had looked there, but was searching for the full vendor name so assumed I was wrong. (for other newbies, when the DIM is a Poser file, that would be a clue to look under Poser in the Content Library) I missed the 3DPA being this vendor!

    Screenshots coming.
Thanks fixmypcmike, you made me take a second look!

Here's where you'd load the base.
