Maybe one already exists! I know there is a Photoshop bridge plug in, but what about a GIMP one? It would be awesome to be able to edit the LIE with my GIMP brushes and tools!
You totally should. A lot of us use GIMP. At this point, with all that's now available in the 2.6 series, there's no amount you could pay me to switch to Photoshop.

Besides...most PS brushes are working perfectly. And with the vast amount of scripts, plugins and filters, it is a very robust/full featured alternative with a wide and robust user base.

There is one for ZBrush and Photoshop, but I never heard one mentioned for Gimp/DAZ Studio.
You could always enter a Feature Request in the Bug Tracker?
Has anyone else done this? Wonder what it would take to create something like this? I'd pay a few bucks for a plug-in for Gimp. (Not a lot, mind you. I use Gimp because I'm cheap. :-P But probably about what I spent on Garibaldi)

I used to have an issue with GIMP 'blowing up' if I had too many brushes - is that handled better with the latest version?

How many is too many? I've got probably a hundred at a time normally. It does lag the startup if I get it up into the 200+ range. I swap them out in different folders as needed, since I don't usually need all my specialty brushes loading at once.

It wasn't that huge a number of actual .abr files, but I suspect the actual number of brushes was quite big ... Having seen how PaintShop handles brushes I'd like to hope GIMP would go that sort of way too.
I upgraded recently to a newer version of GIMP and noticed that it loads MUCH faster now! I have a lot of brushes as well. I find GIMP to be reasonably stable, that is to say it doesn't crash too often and usually only when I have more than 5 or 6 files open or am doing something with a crazy amount of layers.
