colour in actors, wardrobe and props

Hi, I am complete beginnner.

Why do the colours of my models and clothes etc show as gray in actors, wardrobe and props?

Once I switch to pose and animate they appear OK

Is there a setting I have hit by accident?

    Try this and see if that helps click the round ball atthe top right and it gives you different options

    It sounds like you need to set your viewport to texture Shaded as shown below
