How to add a poser runtime in the content directory manager

I have this syltermaid character for V4, that I bought from
content paradise, and I made a runtime just for that one
character.

What are the steps for adding it in the content directory manager?

Thanks!

    Open Content Directory Manager.
    Click on "Poser Formats".
    Click on "Add" button.
Navigate to the folder CONTAINING the Runtime folder.

Thank you, but it would not seem to be quite that simple. With the content directory manager open, I see
a column to the left, with three sections, titled content set, directory, and move.

The content set section has one button enabled: new.

all the other buttons giving possible actions are grayed out, under all 3 sections.
So I cannot add a new directory under the directory section, with this situation.

So what is my next step?

Do you have "Poser Formats" selected? If not, click on it...that should (hopefully) enable the "Add" button.

Edited to add: here's a link to some documentation on the Content Directory Manager: http://wiki.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/dazcontentconfiguration#configure_preferences_in_daz_studio

You can also just right-click on the "... Formats" heading in the Content Library pane and use the Add option from the menu, without needing to open the manager.

Ok ,I made one step of progress. I got it now that I have to click on "poser formats " twice,
once to expand the list, and once to actually select poser formats.

Ok, I added them, but I do not see them listed. I read that tutorial (thanks scott),
but I didn't see anything about this.

Richard, where is the formats heading? I don't see it.

    Thanks....

fixmypcmike, I must be missing something. I just don't see the word frame anywhere in that screen capture.

Also, I still cannot see those runtimes listed in my content directory.
How can I actually get access to the new runtimes?

Click Poser Formats in Mike's screenshot to expand the list of Poser content directories available, right-click on it to add a nwe directory. Or is that not what you are asking? I'm not sure what you are asking about frames for.

Richard, I'm saying I did that and it's still not listed in my content library!

You did select the folder that holds the Runtime folder?

I selected a specific runtime folder that is in C:\all external runtimes.
That is the one I am trying to install.

Can you open the Content Directory Manager, expand the Poser formats section, and post a screenshot?

You do not Select the Runtime folder. You select the folder ABOVE it. The Folder the Runtime is INSIDE.

    I installed that runtime to:

c:\ all external runtimes \ runtime \ name of that runtime folder with the leilani character

it has worked for many other of my runtimes.

Then you select All External Runtimes
That would add any runtimes in that folder in one easy step.

Can you give the exact path? Is there a Runtime folder underneath another Runtime folder?

To get access to it you use the CONTENT LIBRARY tab (Window>Panes (Tabs)>Content Library). Then you open the Poser Formats section. It will be listed among ALL the Poser Content in the proper Poser sections. NOT as a separate FOLDER. This just adds the CONTENT to your LIST of Poser files, it does not add a different folder Name to look in.

Daz Studio Will not LIST different Folders when you Add a Content folder. It Just Add's the Content to the content you have available to use.

The only Poser files that will appear in either Poser or DS are ones in the following hierarchies:
    Runtime
    ----Libraries
    --------Camera
    --------Character
    --------Face
    --------Hair
    --------Hand
    --------Light
    --------Materials
    --------Pose
    --------Props
    --------Scene

You need to merge the Runtime under the Leilani Character folder with the Runtime that's above it.

    Thanks for your help everyone.

I found it under daz studio formats in the content library, but with
    nothing in it.

You know, I don't think the problem is me, because I added this
same runtime just fine in poser, and everything was where it
was supposed to be. And I even applied it to V4 in poser!

I went back into daz studio, deleted that runtime from the
daz studio formats, and it would not let me add it again
under poser formats. It said the directory was already mapped.

So thanks for your help, but I give up. I will go
over to poserland for a while.

    Thanks again,

    Tyler

It was empty under DAZ Studio Formats because because the files are in Poser Format. It didn't show up under Poser Formats because Poser Runtimes have a strict hierarchy -- if the Libraries folder is not directly under the Runtime folder, the files will not show up in either Poser or DS.

Can you post the exact path to one of the files that shows up in Poser? If you define your external runtimes the same way in Poser and DS it should show the same thing.

I do it the same way for everything:

    C:\ all external runtimes\ runtime\ folder name.

    It all works.

The libraries folder is under "folder name" which is in the runtime folder.
I'm not about to mess that up for daz studio.

I hope you're not suggesting I remove all my categories and put everything in one big
un-named pile. I'm not going to do it, and I don't have to do it.

It all works, it's not me. I did it right. This hassle is not worth it.

I'm just stunned that this works in Poser.

And it works in daz studio too, but not for this one folder.
I'm stunned that you didn't know.

Thank you for your help, I give up.

I think what my collegues are trying to find out is what are the named folders inside the folder, named leilani character.
If you have a folder inside leilani character called runtime you will have issues in Daz Studio and for me, Poser. If this is the case then everything inside the leilani character folder should be selected, cut and pasted in the Runtime folder, then delete the empty leilani character folder.

If this is not the case then I have no idea why it will show in Daz Studio formats if you Added the directory to Poser Formats Only.

I hate to pester you, but I'd really like to find out what's going on. Would you mind going to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expanding the Poser-formats section, and posting a screenshot? If you can do the same in Poser, that would be helpful as well, but how to might vary by version. Finally, a screenshot of the "all external runtimes/runtime" folder, the leilani character folder under it, and another one that does work.

I know it's a lot of effort, but I'd really like to understand why this is happening.

Tyler Zambori, we are stunned that it works because it shouldn't.
There seems to be some confusion as to what a 'runtime' folder is. Perhaps this is partly due to the way the term gets used. I suppose you could say there is a figurative and a literal meaning. Often when someone asked what is your runtime folder, they are using the figurative meaning. What they really want to know is what is the folder that contains the actual or literal folder named 'runtime'. The actual 'runtime' folder is a specialized folder to aid with the relative addressing Poser and Studio use. It is like an index point from which to branch from. You should never have runtime(s)(literal use) inside of other runtime(s)(literal use). I don't think it is wise to have the word runtime as even a part of the name of a runtime(figurative use) folder.
