Eyeball all goofy!

edited December 1969 in New Users

Okay, so, I finish my pic, render it, looks great. Open it back up to do a photo shoot in different angles and the LEFT eye is all WONKED OUT, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. It doesn't let me just move the left eyeball up and down that I can find. When I use the look side to side and look up and down, the right eye is fine and the left one acts detached from the fake eye muscles, LOL HELP! I closed it up without saving and reopened it, hoping it would fix the problem, but it didn't, it opened up wonked, forcing me into the forums to grovel for help!

    Which program are you using?

    Which figure did this?
    Was it morphed?

Like if it's for Genesis and the morph didn't take into account the eyes, or maybe I'm supposed to put in other eyes [I'm not very familiar with this character] ... things like this can happen too. The eyes are inside and very tiny. [the holes render dark, screenprint would show the area vacant]

Select just the left eye and go to the Parameters tab. Check "Point At." Does it say "none" or is it pointed at something? Then check the same for the right eye. If one eye is pointed at something and the other isn't, they would be looking in different directions.

Also check the "Up-Down" and "Side-Side" sliders for each eye (you can find this in Parameters also, but you'll have to select just the eye).

Okay, sorry for the lack of details. I am very new at this, just downloaded Daz3d 4.5 a few days ago, spent the last 3 days learning it and buying a crap load of this and that, I bought the Michael 5 bundle for 200 bucks cause i missed the sale, and i've purchased various odds and ends as I went along. So, I'm using the Michael 5 hero and there is no morph, and that one left eye, I swear is just acting like it's disconnected from a few muscles, like, it'll move in the direction of the function I command it, but only an 1/4 of what the normal eye moves and it seems to have lost it's color as well that I'd added to it. I used a set of the eyes that came with the Michael 5 in the material section? I think? Wherever they're at and I tweaked their color. I am LOST on this one. I know that the whites in my character's eyes were black and I couldn't figure out why then I finally realized the HAIR was set too low and bled into the eyes! LOL I swear, I was going wth did I do now???

I have gone in the parameters setting and reset all of them, and at one point, it acted like it was LOCKED, it wouldn't let me move the sliders for a particular setting even though it wasn't showing locked. I did try the slider with the bad eye selected and it just refuses to move properly even when sliding it, I swear it looks sick! LOL. I did check the pointing at but don't remember what it said, let me go look at that.

okay, when I opened the file back up, it was still cockeyed, lol, but I didn't know that when I clicked one eye it was letting me move just that one eye because it doesn't offer a left eye, right eye option in the parameter list, so, I was assuming it didn't, but lo and behold, I looked at the top of the list and it said "left eye" so YAY on that feature. I copied the values for the right eye into the values while the left eye was selected and it has fixed it! THANK YOU :)

I bought the Michael 5 bundle for 200 bucks cause i missed the sale...

It's back on sale today...just two hours left though, I think. If you see this in time, you can re-purchase it and then request a refund of the previous purchase (if it was within the past 30 days). Also, if you join the Platinum Club, you get 30% off DAZ 3D original items (so a monthly membership at $30 for the first month will pay for itself right away if you're buying something big like that). There are sales here regularly.

ahhhhhhhhhh! on sale AGAIN! I was like sick I had missed it! But, seriously, I think I'm too scared to screw something up, but I definitely will see about this platinum club, THANK YOU. I don't mind that I missed the sale, I'm soooooo pleased with what I've bought! But seriously, it's SO easy to spend money!! I need some GOOD hair for men by the way that goes with the Michael 5, preferably some LONG styles! Also, does the Victoria 5 come with the Michael 5 pro suite? I don't remember and a lot of stuff I buy requires that.

i have some questions about hair, like, can I use the girl hair on the men's heads? I know you can because I did it already but I'm not sure if it works all the time. Also, is there any kind of add on or plug in that would let me create a certain shaped tattoo? I need a cross tattoo for the abs, I bought the tattoo pack but it doesn't have a cross and it's annoying that you can't put the tattoos wherever you want, and wherever you put them, you can't tweak them at all with any of the tools, like there's one on the abs but it's like way too low for my taste and you can't move it, that kind of thing.

Also, LIGHTING, what's the best light package to buy for the most natural results for just real life pictures, no animation. I'm probably in the wrong place asking this, sorry if so, I'm kinda lost.

Customer Service is good about giving refunds in situations like this. I did the same thing when I started out last year...bought a bunch of stuff, some just before it went on sale, and had to ask Customer Service to refund me some store credit.

The Michael 5 Pro Suite doesn't come with Victoria 5 (she has her own Pro Suite, but you probably don't want that, because some of the stuff is the same as the M5 Suite). Check out these instead: http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-5-pro-bundle http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-5-starter-bundle http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-5

    Platinum Club info: http://www.daz3d.com/products/platinum-club

Long hair for men: you already have Pure Hair: Sleek (comes with the M5 Pro Suite). A few others that I own and can recommend include: Gregoria Hair, Orianne Hair, Pure Hair: Wild, Elven Hair, and Sea Nymph Hair. Some of those are a little on the feminine side, but I think I've used all of them on men.

Some I don't own but have heard good things about: Evan Hair, Hairdresser Modular Hair, Pure Hair: Fantasy. Those are just the Genesis hairs...but keep in mind than hair made for other figures can be made to work also (see the Hair Tutorial linked in my sig for details on this). I'm probably forgetting some good ones, too.

Also, StudioArtVartanian has some nice long hair at Renderosity.

Edited to add: any Genesis hair can be used on any Genesis character (with some exceptions for extreme characters like the Genesis Troll...you can put the hair on Troll but it might not work very well). There's a lot more information on hair to be found in my Hair Tutorial. :)

For lighting...for DAZ Studio, based on personal experience I can recommend Lantios Lights 2. Looks great and easy to use. There are plenty of other good ones that I haven't tried but have heard good things about from many others. Cloud Nine in particular gets mentioned a lot. There was another thread with more recommendations...here it is: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/18829/

Scott, THANK YOU for all that information. I hate the long "sleek" look as it looks so unnatural, but is the pure hair the same as the sleek? I'm def checking out all your links, thank you. I think I bought the Evan Hair, and do like it. I wished they had just a LONG SKIRT for the man! Or a function that allowed you to make it long. Oh and can you PLEASE tell me how to get the male genitals INSIDE the clothing???? LOL, I'm trying every function to no avail, when I say fit to male genatalia it doesn't work!

Oh and i will surely call for a refund and store credit, cause I will SURELY spend it there!

I'm a big fan of Valea's hair in general, but I agree that Pure Hair: Sleek has more of a stylized look than some of her other products (I do like it though...even used it on my avatar). You might be interested in the Luminous Sleek Hair texture expansion.

    More long hair options:
Cuffed Tail 2 (not made for Genesis, but it can still be made to work...and if you're a PC member you can't beat the price!)
With the Look At My Hair plugin or the Garibaldi plugin, you can make your own realistic hairstyles!

For the genitalia issue...I would recommend loading Mike without the "toast" (which is the euphemism most people use around here...I'm not sure exactly where it came from). There are a pair of Genital Bulge morphs you can use to give the appearance of a "bulge" in that region, rather than trying to fit the clothes over the genitals. You can find them in the Shaping or Parameters panes.

For tattoos...I'm probably not the best person to answer this question, as I have limited experience with that sort of thing. But one option would be to use the Layered Image Editor. Here are a few links to get you started with it:

Hope you enjoy your new purchases!

This is another method for making tattoos. Work on a copy of the original skin!
