using older clothing and making the textures look better

in New Users
This is probably a silly question, but if I wanted to make older clothing textures look better, is it a matter of applying the Uber shader for Iray? Or is this more complicated?

You mean when you use items without iray settings in iray? AFAIK DS already applies the base shader automatically when it renders, so simply applying it manually probably won't give you any different result.
oh, cool, I didn't realize it is set automatically. So if I buy a Genesis outfit, it will automatically be converted to Iray textures then?
There's an automatic conversion at render time, which may or may not give good results depending on what the materials were initially.
If auto conversion is not good enough you'll have to apply the shader manually and adjust the settings.
I use this set for conversion: https://www.daz3d.com/da-iray-fabric-shaders-leather-and-cloth
Looks good, put it on my list..
Sometimes I go thru and apply my own shaders which most of the time work out well, but I wondered about keeping original textures, I'll have to render and see..thanks! learn something new every day!
What I do is that I use the set I mentioned, convert to Iray and then use the cloth or leather converter, and apply it with the crtl-key pressed. That way, I get the shader settings without losing the original textures.
Godo tip, thanks! Hopefully it'll be on sale soon!
Well, other sets will do as well, that one is just my preferred one.
You can actually use fabric shaders from 3Delight in the same way - with exception of fabric with metalic elements. Those look better as Iray shaders. Apply, then convert to Iray, hold the control key and keep the maps.
