Totally lost & the trail of bread crumbs have been eaten....

...if I had stones, I might throw them at my computer LOL.

Ok, I thought I had this DSON core, Legacy, Poser Companion (CF) crud down and then DAZ put the DAZ Horse 2 on sale for me (THANK YOU! *hugs the pretty new horse she just bought) and the files are completely throwing me for a loop. There are Poser Core files, Poser Companion Files, DSON core files... where does all of this go?

Now, I do have both DAZ 4.5 Pro and Poser Pro 2012. I do NOT use the DIM because with the way that my filing system is, it causes more problems than it helps so I manually download everything myself. DAZ is my program of choice and the one I do most of my work in and I am still in the very beginnings of learning Poser. I seriously hope that DAZ made the Horse 2 Poser compatible and that is what the Poser Core file is for. My only problem is that I have zero clue where the Poser Core and Poser Companion Files go. Can any of you Poser savvy users out there help me so my new horse works when I go to pick back up my learning of it? (put it off to learn Genesis *sigh*) Maybe this will help me get Genesis working in Poser for when I decide to pick it back up too.

Thanks. If all of this is explained somewhere and I am overlooking it (very easy for me to do, I am not a very good digger), I will be happy with a link or a point in the right direction... that or a nice swift kick in the hiney LOL.

Edited to add - I guess I do not understand why some things have both Poser Companion Files & the files called Poser Core. Then others have ones that are just called Poser. Or in the case of like the horse... the English Saddle only has Poser Companion File & DSON Core, so if the horse is Poser compatible (hypothetically assuming it is) then that means that one MUST have the DSON Importer for Poser in order to even use that Saddle because no one made a Poser file for it? I am trying to make sure that I am understanding all of this. I have missed the past year of events being away so this DSON stuff, the 4.5 stuff, all of it is new to me.

You need the DSON core files fif you are using DS4.5, and also for Poser.
You need the Legacy files for DS4 and prior.
You need the Poser companion files for Poser

Thank you very much! When they throw in the extra ones it just adds to the confusion; I appreciate the help & the link to clear things up.

I normally keep things in libraries outside of the main DAZ 3D "My Library" if I can help it and categorized by types & when items go into these categorized libraries they are typically usable by both DAZ & Poser. So I have like 5 different locations of huge libraries, including both programs main libraries that you set up when you install the programs. (and I thought the files themselves were confusing LOL)

    1. With having these DSON files & Poser CFs now is it best to put my horse in DAZ's main library instead of my Animals DAZ & Poser library?

    2. Then, would I put the Poser CFs into Poser's main content library or am I able to put them in an external runtime?

Sorry for all of the questions. :red:

This question was asked a while ago "Can I install contents for DAZ and Poser on the same place?" which can be found here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/11176/

Thank you very much, Szark. I didnt know if there were any changes to that now that there is the DSON stuff & the Poser CFs. I have had issues with some items not working properly when I first came back and I was downloading all of the files that were available, then installing ALL of them, but I think some of that was due to installing Legacy files after installing DSON files then trying to run 4.5.

I will take the info from the links you provided and run some tests with the horse based off of that before setting it up permanently. Thank you again for your help. =)

I am glad you got things sorted now. You don't have to copy my way of installing content but it does show that this process can be YOUR choice, Daz Studio (even DIM) aren't forcing anyone to install stuff where they don't want their content installed to. This had been the way since DS2. Just as long as DAZ Studio has all the content directories listed in the DAZ Studio and Poser Formats of the Content Dirertory Manager then all should be well.
