Unique, different and very cool shader renders, tutorial would be appreciated *hint*, Lol, have fun, keep up the work :-)

    Thannnnkkkksss!!!

No much time (busy busy) + horrible english prevent me from doing a tutotrial just now, but like I said in a past post, mosaic shader should be the ideal case to do a tutorial, when I get time and patience to fight with english I will try with one about mosaic shader.

Good sources to begin with shader builder are:
http://www.sharecg.com/v/66014/browse/3/PDF-Tutorial/DAZ-4.5-Shader-Builder-Tutorial-MK-Gooch-Shader and books about Renderman like Apodaca's Advanced RenderMan: Creating CGI for Motion Pictures.

Some tests after a failing secundary HD (2 teras bye! bye!) and a test of shader colors and layers with Iray testsphere.

These are great, gilikshe! Glad to see you posting your work again. Sorry to hear about your drive failure . . .

    Thanks.

The evil HD waits until I installed and customized all my purchased content, then, one day after it died.

Wonderful shaders GiGi...I would like to learn how to make shaders, any possibility of posting the steps to make a simple shader?  I have looked at shader mixer and shader builder but am completely lost even with the minimum of documentation I can find for the newest version of DS.

Yes, this is in my schedule because I think already is time to this and the free tutorial link in sharecg is broken, but it isn't immediately, when I end a research article for my job then I will work in  shader builder mini tutorial for a simple shader with interesting tips.

Thanks for considering doing this, I will look forward to a tutorial. :)

  • Wow, these are very nice images. Very very nice images.

GiGi, you might be interested in 'Freestyle' in Blender, its made to do this style of rendering.

Yes, and it is one of the points to think in adopt Blender like a tool in the future. I'm trying to evaluate if the effort to achieve a good knowledge of blender worth in rendering and cloth creation. Just now I see this after following your link: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Release_Notes/2.71/Freestyle and words: script, outline, python look very attractive.

Gigi, Freestyle has been updated in the latest version of Blender (2.76) There is a quick 3 minute video showing the new features here if you are interested.

Thanks, I have an eye in blender since now. In another thread you said something about renderman and blender, but I couldn't understand if this was a fact or a possibility and what it mean exactly.

It ends up I missed the fact that the free license is for non commercial use, but here's a video describing it: Using Pixar's RenderMan in Blender

Note, Freestyle is part of the Blender Internal render engine, not Cycles or Renderman, so to use Freestyle, the render engine needs to be set to Blender Internal.

Thanks for the info. No good if it is for non commercial. Can I suppose that there is a payed license for commercial use?

For the full Renderman yes, but it's not cheep. Blender (and Freestyle) is free for commercial work.

    Shader Builder Mini Tutorial

    0.- Intro/Introducción

Goal: Create a simple surface shader to understand SB basic use.

Meta: Crear un surface shader básico para entender el uso básico de SB.

    Warning:

    * These are my basic steps to work in shader builder. I don't know if these are good or efficient writing code practices to handle variables and others.

    * I can't find in DS4 online guide the SB section so I could be using wrong terms in some point.  Found!

    * This is an anti-spaguetti approach : one only macro calling several individual external functions by lines of codes. I only use other blocks when these are image blocks.

1.- Shader Builder Tab / Pestaña de Shader Builder

    a) SB Documentation/ Documentación de SB

    Begin read here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/shaderbuilder/start

Read RIspec 3.2 from page 106 (page 117 in the pdf)

    b) Find SB / Encontrando SB

    c) SB Parts / Partes de SB

    1. Catalog
      1. Left side: Shader Categories
      2. Right side: List of shader, DAZ implemented and user shaders
    2. Designer (no visible when shaders aren't selected)

    Catalog:

Shader Categories: Surface, Light, Displacement, Volume and Imager

    Shader List - New shader

Bug: For me, DS4.9 is closed when click in accept after create a name for new shader

    2.- Shader

Selecting a shader shows Designer tab for this shader

Double click in shader shows tabs associated to Designer tab, only for selected shader: Block Network, Shader Code and Log

    So, now SB parts are:

    1. Catalog
      1. Left side: Shader Categories
      2. Right side: List of shader, DAZ implemented and user shader
    2. Designer
      1. Block Network
        1. Block Repository
        2. Shader window
          1. Menu: Compile Shader, Save Network and others
          2. User Parameters (Input, left side)
          3. Shader parameters (Output, right side)
          4. Several blocks, functions or macros.
      2. Shader Code (it can't be modified, shows RSL code version of all macros and functions)
      3. Log (It can't be modified, shows the list of warnings and errors in shaders)

    Block Network

    Shader code

Log, you will be happy when it is empty, shader hasn't problems
