V4 hair with genesis?
Is there any way to use V4 (or M4) hair with a genesis figure? I know you can use generation 4 clothing using autofit, but does that work for hair? There is so much more variety of styles available for V4, but I don't want to spend money on a product if it is not compatible.

Yes Autofit will do it but it all depends on the hair and how long it is before you get mesh distortion around the neck area. The best option I use is to load the hair, without genesis selected and in the T- pose and then and resize and reposition the hair to fit and then "Parent" the hair to the head. This option avoids the Autofit engaging and don't use the "Fit-to" command in the Parameters Pane when the hair is selected as that will also engage Autofit.
It also depends on the Version of DS you are using only the DS4.5's will autofit hair with morphs still active.
Yeah good addition Jaderail but even with that I still get some funcky results with long to med length hair. I think it is down to how the hair was made and how the movement is set up, but that is just my theroy as some long hair translates well with Autofit and no I can't t remember which ones now.
TIP: If you load a hair and the Morphs on the figure Distort the hair. Select the Hair and open Parameters. Open Active Morphs, then use the mini menu to Show Hidden. Zero the morphs causing the distortion Like Ears for example.
Yes to those, and: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/1866/
No problem. :-)
Thanks for all this information. It does seem that it might be more straightforward for me to stick with genesis hair, though, unless there is a special reason to purchase a V4 version, I tend to like longer hair styles which would appear to be a bit more hit and miss.
There are a few styles which I still use on Genesis despite being for Gen4 figures. Once you get used to how it all fits, it's fairly simple and quick to do.

Schmit, you're right that it is more straightforward to use Genesis hair on Genesis, but hair for V4 or another figure can pretty much always be made to work with Genesis and look good (assuming you're not using an extreme Genesis shape like the Troll). AutoFit can be hit or miss, but there are other methods as other posters have described. I put together a hair tutorial that goes into more detail on some of these methods...see the link in my signature. :)
As HeraldofFire said, with a little practice it's usually pretty simple and quick. Not always, but usually. :)

That, and it's hard to find good morphing long hairs for Genesis, much as it was for V4. I've been happiest with 3dream and Mairy, but still - heaven forfend your character ever lie on their back, or lean way forward. DAZ actually has promos of hair where it's obviously pinned to one shoulder when the girl turns her head. Good grief.
