Basically, the title asks the question. What is the difference? Any advantages to the Actors/Wardrobe/Props being selected when posing, vs "Pose And Animate?"
I'm not sure I understand the question. I simply move limbs or apply presets to pose figures, adjusting the sliders in the parameters tab as necessary. I've not come across the 'Pose and Animate' option you seem to be getting. Actors/Wardrobe/Props seems to refer to item types, but Daz treats everything in a similar way when it comes to posing so it shouldn't make a difference.
Can you give a screenshot of where you're getting this?
Good morning HOF! I'm headed to bed as it's 4:10am here- but let me answer first. It must be your layout? I have the default (as doing videos for newbies like myself, it makes it easier for everyone to have the default.) The Post and Animate is a tab that sits to the right or Actors/Wardrobe/Props and they run horizontally across the top. I can use the Universal Tool in either one, and in one of my posts quite awhile ago I recall Jaderail mentioning "you can pose several different ways" (it was the thread about how to get rid of that blasted Universal Tool cube, as I call it, which blocks your view- remember?) so I am wondering if that was referring to these two tabs.
So I'm wondering if Pose and Animate does something special, in other words. I know about the sliders in Parameters and the Universal Tool cube, etc. Just wondering what I'm missing out on, like a treasure hunt! Ahoy matey, care to join me, lol!?
Ahh, you're using the old original setup. Nope, no difference at all. The only thing those affect are which tabs you've got available to you. Personally I have 'City Limits' set up so I have all the tabs I need on the one screen without the need to switch. I should have remembered that, but it's been a while since I last used the default setup.
You will find a number of newcomers will have this setup as they don't know it can be changed or customised but Herald is correct (not that he needed reassuring). It has been years since I used that setup.
The first thing any new users should do is get out of the tinker toy default UI. I really wish DAZ would stop dumbing down the program thinking it makes it more 'user friendly' to new users. A manual, even a basic one would be more help. As for which layout to use I have a custom one that is based off of the Self Serve. I like the idea of breaking a project into stages and getting in to the habit of saving between those stages.

What he said. I'm one of the Original Old Fogeys here, I've used every version of D|S since before v1 was released, and one of the first things I did when I installed D|S4 was to change the UI away from the horribly Poser-like tabbed "rooms" appearance. I don't think and can't work that way, in fact the tabs slow me down a lot, so now I've got something fairly close to the D|S3 "classic" look and I'm sorta happy.
I'm crazy so I always check any Program for an Advanced layout or option. I may never use any of it but I paid for (most times) all those tools so I want to see them and learn if I want to use them or not.

So are there options not shown in the default layout that a beginner would need? We're talking beginner.
And was my question answered- there is no difference in using those two tabs in posing? No advantages from one or the other?

Part one. Do you plan to learn all you can about Daz Studio that you can? I'll answer for you. Yes. We all do. So here is the thing. Are you ready for things to look 100% different when you learn more? If you change the interface later it will be 100% different than it is now. I prefer to learn with every tool there. I may never learn them or use them. I can at least learn about them and EDIT the FULL interface to what I will use from all that is offered. And not go HUH its not where it was before. Which will happen when you change to a Advanced interface later. No one ever said you NEED them but when things change as much as the DS interface will, I prefer to start with the full pallet so to speak.
Part Two, Yes the question is answered. Nothing is Different at all. It was just done that way for the USER to decide which way (Lay out in the tabs) was the best for there way of working. The Best part of DS is once you get comfortable with it YOU can customize it 100%. It will be the way you want it and stay that way.

It's only been months for me, but I still didn't make the connection. 'Scuse me while I go sit in the corner with the dunce cap on my head.
Na we all have DOH! moments, just a tempory lapse of saneness nothing to worry about.

(I still prefer working in D|S3, though...)
