Postwork type, installation related question... I think

edited December 1969 in New Users

When it comes to programs like Photoshop, I have it, and I have two different versions of it, plus a couple of other adobe programs that I use that could use all of my brush sets in (might as well get my money's worth)- but I am just so completely lost its not funny.

I also have Paintshop Pro X4 as well as Gimp 2.6 (for now, will upgrade as soon as I can remember to fit that in).

So, I have a 4 different programs that at any given time on a whim I could use for postwork on my art and all of these brush sets - I don't really want to have to put them all in each of the programs' user paths (I put even 1 of Ron's sets in Gimp's and it crashes it like you wouldn't believe). Am I able to put them in a single location and tell ALL of those programs where to look for my brushes, kinda like I tell DAZ where to look for my external libraries?

I was hoping there would be like a brush, effects, etc manager or something out there like they have Font Managers but if they do I have no clue what to look for. I have the tools but am literally ignorant enough to be seriously dangerous wielding them LOL.

Personally I never put brusehs into my Photosho[p. I have a folder on one of my HDs called "Unzipped Bruses" and I leave them all in there until I want to use them. I then load just the ones I want to use from inside PS when I need them, and reset brusehs after I have finished to it goes back to just default brushes. If you have to load a great long list of brushes every time you boot up PS it can take a long time to load, and is slower to use as well

So you just send a copy of what you need to your photoshop temporarily while you use it? Or do you just put a copy there in your unzipped folder and tell PS where to look? (sorry for still being confused)

You can load brushes from an external folder. Using the Windows 7 Libraries system I have created a resources library which contains links to folders for brushes, fonts and other similar items.

That sounds awesome as well as organized. One thing I miss about no longer being out and about working anymore - being able to keep up on computer savvy stuff like that. Thanks for the helpful info; already getting started with it. =D

Thank you also Chohole. It is good to hear what others do to get ideas; and at least I know my crashing was for a good reason & not cause my brushes were broken or something like that.

    Y'all have a great day. =)
