To install Daz Studio you'll need to download the installer from your downloadble products found in your account. Click the 'My Account' link to find it. Also in your account you'll find the serial number you'll need to type in to activate all of the full functions of Daz Studio.

The Daz Install Manager (or DIM) does not install the main program or plugins and only deals with content like materials, figures, morphs and props.

If you have any specific troubles, feel free to ask. Either myself or one of the other friendly chaps and chapettes will undoubtedly help out.

Just ask your questions, no worry. There are many helpful people here in forums who help newbies whenever they can. What exactly are the problems you have?

first of all thanks for so fast replay on my request... i didn´t expect this

it´s kind of difficult to say where the problem is because it all seems to be kind of problematic...

    but let´s start here:

when i use the install manager: can i trust that this programm will install all the content i have bought?
i am asking because when i check in the install manager it says that for michael there are xxx items ready to install
but when i look at at my account/My Downloadable Products --- i see way more product to download

i understand that i (as a mac user) don´t need the pc version... - but still there are more items to download...

so question is this... : can i trust the install manager?

    thanks for a replay

Well. Some older content does not show in Download Manager yet (but DAZ is working on converting them) . But it should be older items, like Gen 3 (Michael 3, Victoria 3 etc). Items for Michael 4 or Michael 5 should be fine, I suppose. What files show in Download Manager depends on your computer OS (Windows or MAC) and also on the 3D software you are using. When you tell the manager that you are using DAZ Studio 4.5, then items that are only for Poser (like Poser Companion files) will not show among downloadable items because you don´t need them in DS 4.5.

If I knew a way to package metadata for older content I'd upload the ones I've done already, as that's a probably one of the most common issues raised by newcomers.

The Install Manager is a great tool, especially if you have (or will have) a lot of content. But as Proxima Shining said, some older content hasn't been added to the Install Manager yet. Also, keep in mind that it doesn't install software or plug-ins, only content. That could be part of the reason why My Downloadable Products is showing more available downloads.

Feel free to post more questions as they come up...the forum can be a great resource. :)

    thanks everybody....

another thing.... i think i like to work in poser pro 2012... therefore i installed the dson importer...

but that little thinggy just does not work

when i try to work - for instance michael5 - in poser i see this:

    import dson.dzdsonimporter
    ImportError: No module named dson.dzdsonimporter

is there a way to make this work?
    have you got ideas?

i think i followed the recommendation.... i installed also this:

    14812_GenesisStarterEssentialsPoserCF_1.11_dpc

    and this:

    14812_GenesisStarterEssentials_1.11_trx

i installed allways into the recommended folders

would you know where the problem might be?

    thanks
    olaf

i have read many things on the web... seems to be a problem that many people have/had

i have installed and installed everything 2 times... still no progress...

    has anybody

    o.

DAZ Studio and Poser are two programs that both do the same thing. They allow you to load, pose etc. 3D figures and props and create renders (pictures) or animations with them. Some people prefer Poser, some prefer DAZ Studio. To raise a question which program is better can lead to a rather heated discusion between Poser fans and DS fans. :) I cannot tell you the differencies between them, since I don´t have Poser (because, as you said, it is quite expensive, and DAZ Studio is free, so I use DS). But essentialy you would use both programs for the same things, so if you already have free DAZ Studio, you don´t need Poser (but of course you can buy it too if you want to).

It's mostly a matter of taste - different people find Poser or DS to be more intuitive and easier to learn than the other. They have different rendering engines, though, and so renders with the same assets may look different because materials are treated differently, lighting is different and so on. A typical problem is when a product comes with a lighting set, but that lighting set is designed for Poser; when it is applied in Studio, the results are not at all what is intended, nor even acceptable. But it seems to me that most sensible people agree that both programs are capable of producing renders of equal quality, in the hands of a knowledgeable user.

Each program has certain capabilities the others lack, but I think it is a mistake to overemphasize that; especially for a beginner, the similarities far outweigh the differences.

Unless you are talking about dynamic stuff, because that is something which only works on the program it is designed for, so DS dynamic clothing won't work in Poser and vice versa
