Does Poser 2012 export well into Bryce?
Hi all... (waves)
So here's the situation: I have Poser Pro 2010, and I'm thinking about upgrading to 2012. I haven't spent much time with it yet, but I can already tell that it will be a real improvement to upgrade. I haven't had the best luck with exporting from 2010 into Bryce 7, and I really don't want to spend the money on Vue right now. (That tax refund wasn't QUITE as much as I thought it would be...)
If I could live with only Daz 4.5, it would probably be a lot easier. I WILL do much more with DS eventually. But i just can't get started without that 600 page standard ref manual. I don't learn very well from just doing tutorials... It has to be Poser for now. So before I change my mind about how to spend that tax refund...
Does the export/import work pretty smoothly with Pro 2012 to Bryce?
Comments
I have no problems, I have been exporting OBJs from various versuions of Poser and importing them into Bryce ever since I have had poser, and I started with Poser 3.
Obviously there is no bridge, as there is with DS, so you have to actually export the OBJ and then import it into Bryce. Some material settings will need tweaking, especially any transparencies, and the bump mapping.
If you need any help, give me a shout. I don't actually use the newer versions of Poser, still stuck on P8, but I doubt there is much difference in the export import bit, so if you explain why you are having problems, perhaps I can talk you through it.
This is one of my latest, using a Poser model in Bryce (Skull Cove from the store here). Almost pure Bryce, just a tad of post work to enhance the atmosphere.

Thank you so much! And that pic.... OO PRETTY SHINY!! :)
Here's the problem I've been having, though, which is kind of why I asked...
The error message when I try to import a poser obj into bryce...
Basically, I just keep getting an error message when importing an obj file, and that's what it is. It goes almost all the way through, and then says that it can't import a necessary jpg. The only way to get out of the asking-where-it-is cycle is to shut down the program completely. This is not good, and it's happened with every single obj I've tried. . Thoughts?
Ah It needs you to tell it where the textures are. SO click OK and then it will give you another boxx where you can negotiate the wherever the textures are stored on your hard drive. It can be annoying I know, especially if you are like me and have umpteen different runtimes, and do a lot of "Kit Bashing" or mixing and matching when clothing a character.
so when you get this (image 1) click on OK and then you will get this (Image 2) Go to where the tex map is and load it in (image 3)
It worked! YAY! (dances around, scares cat)
It seems to be kind of a tortuous process....
Honestly, I would go completely with DS if they only had that ref manual. But I can't manage without one. Maybe someday...:long:
Yes it is not quite as easy as using the DS bridge (or so they tell me) I have been doing it this way for so long now that it is 2nd nature to me.
Whether it is Poser or DS, to me they are only used as "Plug-ins" to get stuff into Bryce, which I have been using since it first became availalble for the PC
Your work looks great. :) Do you have a regular blog/page with more of it to see?
Nope, but I do have a gallery over at Renderosity, when I remember to add images to it.

BTW we are also trying to start a Bryce Render Challenge. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/19763/
