Adding flame - pre or post-render?

I'm new to Daz studio and 3d (apart from some minor playing around in Bryce at various points over the years), but experienced at Photoshop.

I'm currently working on a render, and wanted to put a small flame hovering over a sorcerer's hand. Obviously it would involve adding a light source over the hand of appropriate colour/size/intensity, which I can manage, I was just unsure whether, for the actual flame itself, to

a) pick up this pack or something similar (suggestions?) and add the flame pre-processing

or

b) render the image without the flame (but with the light source to ensure shadows are in the right place) then add it during post in photoshop?

(Also available: option c) something I haven't thought of yet.)

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Jepe's stuff is for Render in. The method I prefer. But sometimes layering renders in PS or other is the best way.
