Is there a tutorial somewhere on creating windows, doors and walls?

I want to make a few walls, doors and windows that open and close. I can create the geometry easily enough and I can surface them without any problems. However, I'm running into a bit of a hiccup when it comes to bringing them into Daz studio and rigging them to open and close. Does anyone know of a good tutorial on how to turn a static object like a door into a working prop with controls? I'm talking strictly about set design --not clothing or wardrobe or anything like that. I don't mind purchasing a tutorial set, but I would rather not be directed to anyone's product page. I'm trying to learn how to do it myself --not purchase it from someone else.

A lot of the time, doors and the like are just objects parented to the wall. By moving the position of it's pivot, you can change how it rotates, and so by moving it, say, to one corner of the object, the door will open as one would expect. It's easy enough to rename the rotation tools as well as set limits so you could, for example, replace the 'Rotate Y' with 'Open/Close Door' and set a limit of 90 degrees to stop it slamming into the walls or whatever.

HeraldOfFire is pretty close on the information you would need. Let me explain a bit more in a way a New User such as yourself might understand better.

3D objects can be made in DS as primitives as I'm sure you understand. Those objects have a center that is a point that falls on the center of the X,Y,Z axis of the item. You can rotate the Item on that axis in any of those directions with a rotate in there parameters. At the time of creation the axis will be dead center for all objects. Using the built in tools in DS4.5 to move the Y axis of the DOOR to the side you wish it to OPEN from you can do as said and make a Open/Close dial with the limits you would like.

What is not said is to CUT the opening for the Door is not built into DS4.5. For true modeling in 3D you need a program like Hexagon or Blender or any of the others like Wings3D. Then you would make a 3D object mesh you could import into DS4.5 for the Rigging needed to make it work as a object which DS4.5 does have the tools needed to do.

None of this is easy or fast to do but if you are willing to learn, making 3D items that can be used in the way you asked can be learned. If you wish to learn more about modeling items just ask and the helpful users in this Forum will get you pointed in the right direction you need very soon.

To further elaborate on what I said earlier, in order to change the pivot point you would need to use the Joint Editor tool and move the green universal tool (Looks like three arrows joined at a single point) to the location you want the 'hinge' to be. Rotating around that axis will then open or close the door.

To rename the rotation axis to something more user friendly, click the gear icon on the axis of rotation in the parameters tab to bring up the options menu. From here you can not only set limits, but name it something more useful.

I admit I went too far back in my idea of what will2power understood. Modeling, UV mapping and Texturing seems to not be needed. It looks like HOF has this one under control as long as finding the tools needed get explained as part of the help the OP asks for. I'll butt out now and let this move forward without more from me.
