So who owns what?

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but I cant find it.  So here goes a million and one...

I want to write a book (yeah, like everyone else) and I want to add some illustrations that put together using Daz3D.  It doesnt seem like I should have the rights to sell these pictures, or a book with these pictures in them, as I didn't make the figures in them.  I almost feel like it would be the same thing as cutting apart pictures from Captain America comic books, glueing them together to make a new scene, then trying to sell that as The Adventures of General USA...

Anyway, I'm not trying to invest a lot of time and money only to get sued at the end of the day.

Now on the flip side if the coin, if you can't do this, what are people using this stuff for?  Once you made a nice screen saver, unless you can circulate these pics, I don't really see the use...

Enlighten me please!

You own the rights of your own renders, you can do whatever you like with them (share sell etc)!

You can read the full Licensing Agreement here: https://www.daz3d.com/eula

For all things you bought in the DAZ Store, you own the right to sell any 2D render (images, movies, '3D pictures'), or do whatever you like with it (put it on shirts and mugs, and sell those).

For free items, like from share cg or from the DAZ forums, you have to check with the rights granted with each items. A lot of freebies are for personal use only, so using them in a commercial item like a book illustration is a big nono.

Items purchased in others shops, please check with theit EULAs for details.

Does credit have to be given per picture? or can all the designers be lumped in one credit.... or do I not have to mention them at all?

and it seems like you can make pictures and sell them... from Daz Studios, but what about the content from other designers?  Do you need to get permission for each one of these artists individually?  Or as long as you buy it from the Daz Marketplace, can it be used in the form of a 2d picture and the picture be resold?

Anything bought in the Daz 3d Store is covered by the EULA .

Anything bought at any other store you will need to check their EULA.

  • Does credit need to be given to the creators anywhere?

For items bought in the DAZ store, no, you do not have to put in credits (unless you want to). Though, if you post something in the gallery here, it's nice if you list the items you used using the gallery finction, so that people looking at your image and who like a particular item can find it in the store.

For freebies not from the stire, and for items purchased elsewhere, their rules will apply, so you might or might not have to credit them if you use their things in your commercial render or non commercial render.

Adding to that,  adding the PAs name to your galley by listing the items used does helpother member find the products if they like your art, and also the PAs are happy to see their items used. I have had PAs add a comment to my images when I have added their item to my list of products used.

I use the images for my book art, and web art all the time. Many people here have created graphic novels etc, and no you don't need to give credit or mention it in any way. Buying the asset is essentially buying the right to use it in any rendered image for commercial or non commercial purposes.
